At 'Justice for Immigrantsí Mass, bishop calls Jesus 'divine immigrant'

Trenton, N.J. - Jesus was the "divine immigrant" who lived his life "traveling from place to place," Bishop David O'Connell of Trenton told the congregation at a midday "Justice for Immigrants" Mass Oct. 11 at St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral.

"Sacred Scripture tell us where he was from and what his ancestral lineage was," the bishop said in his homily. "But nowhere in the Bible do we find his permanent address, the location of his house, where he lived after beginning his public ministry.

"He lived and worked as an immigrant, an itinerant preacher, on many levels," the bishop added.

With comprehensive immigration reform a high priority for many groups across the country, Catholics from throughout the Trenton diocese came together to join O'Connell at the downtown cathedral to pray and show their solidarity on the issue. Some 20 priests of the diocese were concelebrants.

O'Connell spoke of how important it was for the Catholic church to provide people with an opportunity to pray for positive movement on immigration. The Mass was coordinated by Catholic Charities and the diocesan Office of Catholic Social Services.

An ‘immigrant’ if one can call it that, from a lawfully defined Roman province at the time, making his way to Jerusalem to pay his taxes......

Yep, I see these Mexicans trekking to DC all the time to pay their taxes.

render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.

The Kingdom of God has no boundaries, the things that are Caesar’s have definite boundaries.

Immigrants are lawfully admitted within the boundaries, illegal aliens are not.

This is nonsense and propaganda of pure socialism, which the Church abhors.

Oy Vey!

Yes, we are all...whatever

Priests are not allowed to get involved in politics.

The Church has a position on immigration. And it is that the Church is against promoting invasion and destruction of a country as the invasion, rendering the host country unable to provide for the poor in the future.

If he wants to interpret the Bible from the pulpit to make a political case, without consulting the catechism, the Catholic interpretation of the Bible by the great theologians, he can do so. No one is making him stay Catholic, but what he is saying is NOT the Church’s position.

Nor is the Church’s position the same as the USCCB’s on the subject.

Catholics are as informed, as a group, on the teachings of their Church as Americans are about the constitution.

So a lot of Catholics who hear this will follow it. The Bible also says, and directly to us, through St Paul, to beware of people who will tickle your ears and lead you astray.

It also says Do Not Commit Murder. We can interpret that to mean don’t participate, as in voting democrat, the party of abortion.

Their are a few priests who will talk about that from the pulpit. Not many.

3 To Commies, the goal isn't to enable everyone to rise to their highest potential, but to smash everyone down to an equal level of misery.

1874–1965 - Winston Churchill

 “If you destroy a free market, you create a black market.”

 “Socialism assails the pre-eminence of the individual.”

 “You don't make the poor richer by making the rich poorer.”

 “No socialist system can be established without a political police.”

 “If you have 10,000 regulations, you destroy all respect for the law.”

 Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the State.

 “Is it better to have equality at the price of poverty or well-being at the price of inequality?”

 “‘All men are created equal' says the American Declaration of Independence. 'All men shall be kept equal' say the Socialists.”

 “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

 “We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.”

 “It is not alone that property, in all its forms, is struck at, but that liberty, in all its forms, is challenged by the fundamental conceptions of socialism.”

 “Some see private enterprise as a predatory animal to be shot, others look on it as a cow to be milked but a few see it as a sturdy horse pulling a wagon.”

 “The vice of capitalism is that it stands for the unequal sharing of blessings; whereas the virtue of socialism is that it stands for the equal sharing of misery.”

 “The day will come when it will be recognized without doubt throughout the civilized world that the strangling of Bolshevism at birth would have been an untold blessing to the human race."

 “If I were asked the difference between Socialism and Communism, I could only reply that the Socialist tries to lead us to disaster by foolish words and the Communist could try to drive us there by violent deeds.”

 “… From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the Continent. Behind that line lie all the capitals of the ancient states of Central and Eastern Europe. Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Bucharest and Sofia, all these famous cities and the populations around them lie in what I must call the Soviet sphere, and all are subject in one form or another, not only to Soviet influence but to a very high and, in many cases, increasing measure of control from Moscow. …” From his “Iron Curtain Speech” in the gymnasium of Westminster College in Fulton, MO, on 3/05/1946

 “The flame of Christian ethics is still our best guide ... only on this basis can we reconcile the rights of the individual with the demands of society.”

He’s not speaking for the Church. The Church has NO such teaching. It is not written anywhere in the Catechism, I am sure, since the Catechism states the opposite.

The Church does not condone illegal behavior, not invasion of a country. The Church, as a body, knows it will have no country for its people if it inserts itself into politics, so it doesn’t.

The USCCB is mistaken on this issue. THe Catholics who hear this and it sounds good to them will not, in majority, listen to the same bishop if he calls on them to stop voting for the party of abortion.

But the Church calls on its people to listen and obey even when it’s inconvenient, and it calls, on it’s people to know the Bible and, in particular, the Gospel. such practice would dispel anything a renegade priest had to say.

Then why doesn’t the Catholic Church “define” her bishops? Should they not be good stewards of Catholic teaching and doctrine? If not, why are they permitted to remain?

Holding those who defy the Catholic Church accountable should be a prime focus when it comes to issues like this, unless of course, they tacitly agree with the bishops?

IOW, by NOT disciplining or removing these bishops, the Catholic Church is, by default, endorsing these bishops and their statements.

Let me get this straight. He delivered this at a Mass. That is his day job, right? He is "employed" by the Roman Catholic Church, right? Isn't it his job to accurately represent Roman Catholic Church teachings whenever he executes his duties?

If his teaching has jumped the rail, will his superior issue a public correction?

Nice try. Sell it elsewhere.

Local Egyptian Coptic Tradition says Joseph and Mary with Jesus fled to escape Herod-

They had to pass the Jewish border guards at the Egyptian border.

The Jewish border guards were used by the Romans because they were the best fighters. When the Holy Family returned back they had to go back across the same border crossing manned by Jewish guards.

On the Eastern border toward Syria, the Roman border guards had a 2-guard station every 100 yeards or so nobody ever illegally could get through that border. The Roman Empire, including Herod, their puppet, knew exactly all the time who was in which country and where they were. [cf census in NT]

They had spies everywhere.

The Egyptian border had a long canal filled with crocodiles left over from earlier pharaohs [the canal, not the crocodiles]. All the Roman borders either had walls with guards or guards stations, as in the desert border areas.

I agree. The record of the Popes has generally been poor on this. They are loath to bust bishops. JPII’s ecclesiology held that bishops are practically untouchable. Rembert Weakland’s abuses—of money, of the liturgy, of boys—were all known in Rome for decades. He was confronted with stacks of documented complaints each time he was in Rome. But he stayed almost to retirement age, and it really was the press, not the Pope, who made it necessary to quit.

I anticipate that future episcopal appointments will include a significant cadre of lifelong Democrats who will do all they can to soft-pedal abortion.

Taken as a whole, the loyalty of the American bishops to the baby-killing party and their accommodations to the culture of death absolutely eclipse the various failures of the German episcopate in the 1930s. For one thing, their treason to the Church has gone on for decades, not one decade. And the German state threatened clergy and laity alike with actual violence.

Nowhere does it state that the Pope is advising them to promote the invasion that is going on. The have a deaf ear to what is happening. They do not understand the nature if what is happening

I’ve read quotes that state we are a wealthy nation and we need to share.
No we are not we cannot pay our bills. We are nearing 20 trillion in debt and soon in a real mess with BO care

None of them, not the Pope, understand the extent nor the volume of the situation, relying on lying statistics and politicians

They are misrepresenting the situation and are doing so to the new Pope

It is a real problem

But the Catechism says what it says and it speaks against this

Imagine that! A Jesuit theologian with an education stretching from Argentina to Spain to Germany, prays to "Our Mother the Blessed Virgin Mary, Star of the New Evangelization" every day for protection and guidance, may have been elected the Bishop of Rome, the "Vicar of Christ", by some of the very devils who are trying to deceive him now. You would think he would have some intellectual and Heavenly discernment.

Or, maybe he knows exactly what he is doing?

Wake up.

The gold, frankincense, and myrrh were to bribe the border guards and buy Joseph the rudimentary carpenter tools he would need to support his family in Alexandria.

Think about him - an honest, God-fearing, law abiding man his entire life.

Had to get accustomed to unimaginably terrifying dreams of fiery angels, telling him life was about to be turned upside down.

Became a fugitive with no warning and no 'criminal skills'.

Had to schlep a newborn and a teenage wife, barely recovering from childbirth, across the Sinai.

And never bitched about it. Joseph was an action-hero stud.

And by the way, your excellency, Bishop David: Jesus spent 90% of his life as middle-class small business man,
