Dick Cheney calls tea party a boon to GOP
The Washington Times ^ | 10-21-2013 | Cheryl K. Chumley

Countering many of his Republican colleagues, former Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday the tea party is actually a positive movement for the GOP.

“It’s an uprising, in part, and the good thing is it’s taken place within the Republican Party,” he said on NBC’s “Today.” “I don’t see it as a negative. I think it’s much better to have that kind of ferment and turmoil and change in the Republican Party than it would be to have it outside.”

Mr. Cheney said that if it wasn’t for the tea party, his daughter, Liz, might not be seeking to unseat Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi. Her campaign was “partly motivated” by concerns expressed by tea party members who decry high taxes, high national debt and the looming financial obligations from Obamacare.

Mr. Cheney said he admired the tea party for fighting the good fight.

“I’m not a card-carrying member [of the tea party] — I don’t know if there is a card — but I’ve got a lot of respect for what the people are doing,” he said. “These are Americans. They’re loyal, they’re patriotic, they’re taxpayers and they’re fed up with what they see happening in Washington.”

Mr. Cheney said he didn’t blame the tea party for causing an unrepairable schism within the Republican Party.

Homosexual marriage is not an issue with the younger set. My adult children do not oppose it. I would support civil unions for legal protection but no farther. My older brother was a homosexual, a good person, sadly he passed in the first wave of AIDS deaths. I don’t hate homosexuals I just don’t understand them.

Cheney applauds the tea party and you dismiss him? Why? We need every voice in this fight. I’m grateful for his support. If he was truly GOP-E, Cheney would have taken the easy way out and just criticized us.

DICK CHENEY: Well, I look at it with a different perspective, Savannah. I think, you know, we had a lot of talk about conflict inside the party. What intrigues me is, I think the most radical operator in Washington today is the President. I think he’s trying to take the country in a direction that is fundamentally different than anything we’ve seen before.

You are destined to be a perennial minority with that attitude. Are you also excluding all Democrats, Independents and Moderates who come to embrace the tea party principles? Reagan won because he sold others on the strength of his ideas. The tea party is not a closed club. It is open to everyone who shares our goals.

So?

Does that mean, that we as conservatives, and as Christians, do not fight against it with everything we have?

If the Culture of the U.S. finally accepts the homosexual agenda, or accepts Homosexuality as normal, we are doomed as a nation.

As the founders so wisely stated, this experiment of Representative Government was only meant for a Christian Nation, and if we walk away from God, it won't work.

If we, as a nation, are willing to accept Evil as good, God's favor will not be on us and his Judgment will be on us.

I understand but I was just stating that she is running and claiming to be a TEA Party candidate. I know how progressive she is.

Gotcha. Fortunately, most Wyoming GOP primary voters also know the truth about her.

Many of us believed that if Obama won in 2012, the GOP would split. Nothing has changed my belief in this. But I think the RINOs are the ones who should vacate the GOP, not conservatives. The GOPe as it is will lead us to one party rule. They will be relegated to being like pigs lining up at the trough to grab whatever leavings the democrats throw to them. The RINO party will forever be the second party. Taxpayers will suffer the most.

It’s not “ferment” it’s “FOMENT”. And don’t try to coopt it by blowing smoke.
