Posted on 10/22/2013 10:02:20 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife
Rep. Bill Youngs (R-Fla.) widow asked former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist to not attend her husbands funeral.
Beverly Young made her request in an email sent Monday to Crist a Republican turned independent turned Democrat who is considering another run for office. The email was obtained by the Tampa Bay Times.
This e-mail is to officially advise you that your presence at my husband's memorial services will be unacceptable, she said in the email.
I have watched over the years, as Bill had, your transparent attempts to manipulate the political arena. I don't want my husband's memorial service to be another opportunity for that and I will not tolerate anyone turning this into a platform for political gain. Please honor my families request.
Young told the newspaper that she also asked two former congressional opponents of Young not to attend the funderal.
"Bill specifically said he didn't want his memorial service to be a platform for local politicians to work the crowds, Young told the newspaper. He's right. It's not only wrong, its disgusting to see that happen.
He gave me the names of the people he wished wouldnt show up, that was just three and we both know I dont care about political correctness so I took it upon myself to honor his wishes, she said. I've been at many political funerals and listened to locals standing in groups planning their strategies. God gave people souls, but some don't know to take advantage of that God given gift."
Young died Friday at the age of 82 of complications related to a chronic injury. He was the longest serving member of the House.
The House canceled its session Thursday so members can attend the service.
A public funeral for Young will be held in Largo, Fla.
That you are so slimey a greiving widow has to go out of her way to ensure you won't attend her husband's funeral says a ton about character, or lack thereof for Charlie.
Good for her! God gave her the strength to address this slime ball! Thanks for post CW!
Remember Clinton @ Ron Brown’s service?
(He was laughing, saw the camera, and immediately put on his sad face)
Good for Mrs. Young!
Yet this ‘grieving’ widow has no problem with our Air Force flying in hundreds of self serving dem politicos from DC. On cover of Drudge right now. Not taking up for Crist, but this strikes me as pretty low class. Just sayin.
Young was angry about the way his wife was treated. "Because she had on a shirt that someone didn't like that said support our troops, she was kicked out of this gallery," Young said on the House floor the following day, holding up the gray shirt. "Shame, shame," he said.
Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer apologized in a statement late that same day. Young said he was not necessarily satisfied. "My wife was humiliated," he told reporters. He suggested that "sensitivity training" might be in order for the Capitol Police..." Source
I seriously doubt she asked the Air Force to fly them in but he did serve for a long time so I’m sure many do want to attend his funeral. They could pay their own way.
Scratch last post, I thought this was the dem politico that died recently’s widow. Need more coffee.
Does she ever know Charlie Crist!
See post 9. I was thinking Tom foley when I read headline. Thought it was his widow.
Funny... all these years I focused on Clinton. The worthless slime-ball did do a 180. What’s funny is that his friend, not catching on, kept his smile and didn’t change his demeanor at all.
I use the term ‘friend’ loosely here. Clinton never met a person he couldn’t stab in the back... literally.
Teehee! Spunky widow.
Got it. Thanks.
That’s speaks volumes, phoniness is the man’s entire schtick.
It’s all he has, it’s all he knows, it’s what he is.
I remember General Patton requested that Beedle (sp?) Smith not attend his funeral.
“Yet this grieving widow has no problem with our Air Force flying in hundreds of self serving dem politicos from DC.”
Please do not be so harsh on Mrs. Young during her moment of grief. She more than likely does not have the energy or may fear for her own if she were to stop all those Democratic politicians from using our tax dollars to fly all the way to Florida for her husband’s funeral.
Her husband was a good man and she is now must deal with all these career politicians occupying her husband’s funeral.
Please let her grieve.
I was thinking this was Tom foley’s wife for some reason but still agree that we should not be footing bill for any politico to go to this funeral! These ruling elites from both parties are getting on my last nerve.
Great catch. Kudos to the widow.
Memo to Crist:
Charlie, the party leadership has met and come to a conclusion regarding your attendance at the party’s funeral.
We are therefore formally requesting you handle the list of attendees. If you can get a Conservative to show up, go ahead, but we realize how hard it will be.
Invite your friends, and hire some professional mourners.
We know you’ll all find a home in the Democrat party, but we do think outward appearances should lead folks to think that at least a few people were upset the party leadership suicided the party.
Once again, I was thinking this was Tom Foley’s widow for no apparent reason. My bad. I still don’t think taxpayers should foot bill for politicos to go to this funeral. If she doesn’t want it turned into a political circus, she should consider a private funeral with close family and friends though. She is in my prayers.
I agree. Wow... what an e-mail!
You've really got to rethink your vision on this. ;^)
I'd be glad to chip in and pay for them to extend the trip for the rest of the year on our dime. Imagine the money we would save...
Keep 'em out of D.C. as long as you can.
Thank you for clarification.
I was simply aghast that someone would question the particular grieving of the widow of a great Republican citizen statesman.
The widow is just honoring her dead husband’s request that asked that three names be excluded. Given her husband’s occupation she can’t expect that no politicians show up. However the tone of her remarks indicate some particularly bad blood with Crist. I don’t know the circumstances and will defer to others.
Mrs. Young is a very strong lady. (Charlie Suntan would probably like to hit her with his purse.)
Good on her.
True, but thanks to the 1994 Gingrinch landslide, and a brief return to Reaganism, we had some of the best limited government policies of the last century.
“He gave me the names of the people he wished wouldnt show up, that was just three”
Who were the other two?
"....Young sent similar emails to Democrats Charlie Justice and Jessica Ehrlich, who ran against her husband....." Source
If I remember correctly, that ‘friend’ is Tony Campolo.
This woman sounds like somebody I could like a lot. I pray God’s comfort and peace for her.
Open foot, insert mouth, engage brain...oooppppsss too late, but at least you retracted your goof.
Good on you, many folks just slink away.
If the rest of the House is attending the funeral then good luck on it not turning political.
I think we need to see who she is asking to stay away.
Links jailed lobbyist Jack Abramoff to Rep. C.W. Bill Young.
Charlie Justice on Wednesday, April 14th, 2010 in a web ad.
In the email, Ehrlich writes, "Did you hear Bill Young took a vacation so he could come home and raise money from special interests? ... (H)e is raising money for attack ads."
This is not how congressional wives are supposed to act.
They are not supposed to curse at Pentagon officials, write angry letters to President Bush or say that members of Congress take bribes.
But Beverly Young, the wife of Rep. C.W. Bill Young of Indian Shores, doesn’t play by those rules. Spend a day with her visiting wounded Marines at the National Naval Medical Center and you’ll hear a few expletives. When she sees a photograph of a former hospital official, Beverly says: “See this b——? If she were here, I’d deck her.”
But mostly what you hear from Beverly is compassion for the Marines who lie in the surgical ward, wincing from their injuries. Many have had arms or legs amputated. She holds their hands and tells each of them, “We love you, Marine.”
She asks one if he needs chewing tobacco or whiskey. She slips $200 to the fiancee of another.
She spends several days a week at the hospital, often bringing pizzas or DVDs. When the Marines have no family, Beverly spends hours in their rooms like a surrogate mother. One Marine says that when he was overmedicated with painkillers, she saved his life by cursing in his ear like a drill instructor.
Laws have been changed thanks to Beverly. She prodded her husband to create a nationwide registry for bone marrow donors. When she discovered the military charged wounded soldiers for hospital meals, she raised such a fuss Congress repealed the law.
Says Marine Brig. Gen. John Kelly: “She can be a royal pain in the a— - but only to people who don’t care about the troops.”
She’s something else, something we don’t see often enough.
Thanks! That’s hysterical.
But there again Clinton demonstrates his phoniness, because he now takes credit for the good that came from that.
I WOULD love to slink away from that sentence structure though: “.......recently’s widow.” ??? LOL..that is hugh and series grammar right there....lol.
This is an excellent article on a doughty widow who doesn't want that scumbag Charlie Crist at her husband's funeral.
I don't want him at my funeral, either.
So some of Rep. Young's associates, many of whom served with him for decades, want to attend the services. Most of us attend the funerals of folks we work or worked with, don't we?
Because the legislators are in DC, it may be a benefit of their jobs that they can take AF 1 en masse...and then get right back again en masse....for reasons of paying respects and other obvious reasons such as security and even the more advanced age of some of the deceased's peers.
Why take it out on the widow and family.....or even spoil the dignity of occasion with senseless carping crap. Pick your battles.
(Note: My pings do NOT include any carpers).
If you don't like what may or may not be a free flight to the funeral of a colleague, take it up with your own representative. If he flew there himself to pay last respects, tell him you're going to run against him next time. Then do so.
RIP, Cong. Young.....you walked the good walk...you served our country in war and in peace.....and now may you walk with the angels.
“Then you are an idiot!” Priceless. Sounds like the Youngs were not deficient in standing up for principles!
