Rudy had two accomplishments as mayor:
He got rid of the beggars at stop lights and he cleaned up Times Square.
He also screwed up by putting security high up in the WTC against all sound advice. He has since made a career out of saying he was the mayor when NYC was attacked. Congrats, Rudy. You are a real superstar.

He was everywhere at once and spoke calm and comfort...not only to NYC but the whole country.

I have issues with Rudy but in 1992 this city was a sewer. In his 8 years he and Bratton changed that.CompStat and Broken Windows revolutionized policing. His policies, with Tommy Thompson, changed the face of welfare in the city and the US. We went from 1.5 million to less than 400K on the dole in NYC. I understand that Freepers hate his social policies and opinions, but I live in this town and he made it better. {My kid was and is safer going to the Village for a night out than driving around on a Saturday night on Sunrise Hiway in Rockville Centre. He’s got a lot more than two accomplishments.
Rudy got a lot of trash off the street by telling police to stop ignoring “small” crimes; the guy jumping the turnstiles or urinating on the subway often had warrants for other stuff, so he got them off the street quickly.
I’m no fan of Rudy, though; I remember his kids wouldn’t support him because he was running around with another woman before he was divorced. He also marched in sodomite parades, and set up Hillary to win as NY senator by dropping out of the race. A lot of these things were forgotten after 9/11; they shouldn’t be.
