Just 24...damn. It wouldn’t have been any less evil a crime had the teacher been 60 and nearing retirement, of course. But it always strikes me as that much crueler and unfair to me whenever someone so young is killed. Her own life had barely begun when it was taken so viciously.

As for the perp, I wouldn’t rule out mental illness. Not as a defense, as he had presence of mind to obtain a weapon and lie in wait. More in the sense of being like Michael Myers...an evil sociopath with no conscience or remorse.
