CareFirst says 76,000 customers will lose current coverage due to Obamacare (40%)
Washington Examiner ^ | October 24, 2013 | PHILIP KLEIN

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield is being forced to cancel plans that currently cover 76,000 individuals in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., due to changes made by President Obama's health care law, the company told the Washington Examiner today.

That represents more than 40 percent of the 177,000 individuals covered by CareFirst in those states.

Though Obama famously promised that those who liked their health care coverage could keep it under his program, in reality, the health care law imposes a raft of new regulations on insurance policies starting Jan. 1 that are forcing insurers across the country to terminate existing plans.

In theory, rules were supposed to allow pre-existing plans to be "grandfathered in," but they were written so narrowly that they leave out many plans.

"Of the 177,000 individuals under age 65 who are covered by CareFirst, about 76,000 of them are in a non-grandfathered plan — a plan that will not comply with the guidelines imposed by the Affordable Care Act at their time of renewal this year or next," CareFirst said in an email in response to an inquiry by the Examiner.

If you were buying your own insurance, it made sense to get catastrophic insurance that you might use one year out of five instead of getting every office visit paid for. That sensible plan for insuring against economic catastrophe is not what Obamacare is about. It is about transferring from the young to the old and from the rich to the poor, and a catastrophic policy just doesn't fit into that.

I’m to the point now that Obamacare — and ALL its agony — should simply roll forward. Get out of the way, Repubs. The public blamed you for the shutdown because you had the temerity to slow its course.

So..... FULL STEAM TO THE ICEBERG DEAD AHEAD!!!!

Conservatives need to broadcast this.

Sitting here in Md. with BC&BS and afraid to go to the mail box.

Not enough nasty epithets to use to describe my feelings toward this Kenyan Muslim a-hole and his Democrat butt lickers.

Great. Can’t wait to start seeing all these folks coming into our clinic with no insurance. It’s really heartbreaking at times to see folks who can’t afford their medicines ....can’t get referrals to any specialist that they might need.

But, alas, many, many of them likely voted for this fool. I don’t know what else to say. It’s the LAW now ...

We got our love letter from CareFirst/BCBS last week (we’re in VA.)

We can pay $4 more a month for the same coverage that will remain effective through Dec of 2014. More than a year’s notice.

Considering all the unknowns that BCBS has to deal with, depending on how huge of a failure Mr. Obama’s Legacy turns out to be, I am happy with the way BCBS handled us.

This whole thing was totally unnecessary.

There was never an excuse for passing Obamacare.

Nancy Pelosi shoved this mess down our throats and even she did not know what a turd it was . Now that she knows she is too stupid to admit her mistake and try to right the wrong.

All of the Democrats are, my hope is that it buries them, and I believe it will. Soon crowds of screwed Americans will go to Washington with tar and feathers.

I blame the Republican puss*es almost as much as the Democrats for letting the damn thing ever get so far. I expect this crap from the loser leftists. I would expect “my side” to fight against a law as harmful as this is obviously going to be.

Look at the nothing the Republicans are doing right now in Va. They are giving the governorship to freaking McCauliffe. There is absolutely no way the race should be where it is, not with the numerous screw ups Obama has made. Where are the Republicans? I see Bill Clinton is going to Roanoke next week. Is everyone busy?

I think BCBS sees they need our business to remain profitable, and I think they know by offering us what they did, we will use them again when the time comes to decide.

Thnx for that link posting. I love this one above all because its focus is the AUDIENCE. What a lift these people gave Ted and the rest of us. Now what’s needed is for those who can SHARE this link, to do so.

I checked out his speech at the Iowa GOP Reagan dinner Friday evening. It’s available on C-Span.

When he’s introduced to the stage, I got a huge boost and good laugh when the introducer - who was obviously Indian American (from India) - touted Ted Cruz as the very first HISPANIC to address the Reagan dinner.

Now we know America is too divided along ethnic lines and all the pandering is wrong.

But what I love is that in light of this that we all know is tearing us down and helping Democrats, this guy cut right to the heart of things. Because if the media and the Dem and GOP-E DC polls didn’t hate and fear Ted Cruz, we know THEY would focus on his being half Hispanic. Instead, just like Zimmerman, they try to bury that and pretend he’s 100% Anglo.

So in that context, I think it was GREAT that the introducer said it.
