8 states join forces to promote clean cars

Eight states, including California and New York, pledged Thursday to work together to dramatically multiply the number of zero-emission cars on the nation’s roads by speeding the construction of charging stations and other infrastructure.

The goal is to put 3.3 million battery-powered cars, plug-in hybrids and other clean-burning vehicles on the roads in those states by 2025. That’s more than 15 times as many zero-emission vehicles projected to be in use in the entire U.S. by 2015.

Auto dealers say networks of charging stations and other conveniences are crucial to winning over drivers who are accustomed to pulling up to the gas pump and fear getting stranded by a dead battery.

The other states in the pact are Massachusetts, Maryland, Oregon, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Vermont. The eight states together represent about 23 percent of the U.S. auto market. …

Trying to go back to the turn of the last century, I see. The last time electric cars outsold internal-combustion (and even external-combustion) cars in the USA was in 1899–1900.

The claim that electric cars are zero-emission is false. The are elsewhere-emission vehicles.

“Massachusetts, Maryland, Oregon, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Vermont.”

NY ones will have to have only ONE cup holder-one that holds no more than a 12 oz cup...and only ONE so you have to SHARE with your passengers.

It’s nice when the headline sums everything up, so you don’t have to read the actual article.

Clean cars are okay — but, do car washes really need government subsidies?

global warming is a hoax. funny how the media, government schools, scientists conveniently forget to mention that the Sun's solar cycle is what affects the Earths' climate. We are in solar cycle 24 which is much below average. 25 will be very tiny which means decades of global cooling. ask yourself why the news media , schools, government , scientists etc. ignore the Sun and its cycle . these institutions are all political and controlled by democrats/socialists. a million Earths can fit in Sun

"The claim that electric cars are zero-emission is false. The are elsewhere-emission vehicles."

Cars also become low or zero emission when their owners can no longer afford to fuel them.

That depends on perspective. The modern day Mustang and Camaro have much more horsepower out of small blocks than their predecessors had, and they match the big blocks—exceeding them in a lot of cases. There were also no six-cylinder engines exceeding 300 horses, as in the base Camaro and Mustang of today.

No, it’s a matter of overall. And it’s not just BHP or 0-60. Simplistic measurements from speed hogs.

Most cars in the old days were natural beasts in every department. Today most are tiny wimps which even slouch! Look at them, they don’t stand up straight! Every nose points to the ground. They themselves won’t last many impacts. They can’t carry a load, certainly not up a mountain, and are much less “practical” than these fuel-nuts imply.

There is more to a car than speed or fuel economy.

I don’t see a 1957 Thunderbird doing too much on that list. Those were two-seater specialty cars, even back then.
