Issa: Extend fed-worker health plan to all Americans
Washington Post ^ | October 25, 2013 | By Josh Hicks

A top Republican has proposed legislation that would allow all Americans to enroll in the health plan used by federal employees and members of Congress.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who introduced the bill, said the measure would address some of the nation’s key healthcare challenges.

“This is a free-market approach to healthcare with government playing the very limited role of helping small businesses and individuals come together to get a better price for healthcare — much like larger businesses can already negotiate on their own,” Issa said in a statement Thursday.

Reps. William Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) and Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) have co-sponsored the legislation, giving the bill support from both ends of the political spectrum.

The National Journal listed Clay as tied for first among the most-liberal House members in its 2012 vote ratings. Issa and Mulvaney rank among the top one-third for most-conservative lawmakers.

Federal worker labor groups criticized the health measure on Thursday. American Federation of Government Employees president J. David Cox suggested that the bill is unnecessary, saying the federal-worker plan is similar to the insurance exchange established under President Obama’s signature health-care legislation. . .

the problem with folks like ISSA is that they want to give everyone GOODIES, when the role of government is to GIVE NOTHING because the point of our constitution is that people are supposed to be in charge of their lives not the government...that is why there is a TEA Party!!!

If I was the president, in charge of enforcing laws, I would round up all 22 million or whatever the number and ship them back where they came from. And then build a secure fence at the southern borders. Not only that I would require all visitors and students to register with local police every month.

But I smell the coffee. I know and y’all know that is not happening and won’t happen. So the current situation is exactly same as legal Amnesty. Actually it is far worse, because we do not know who is here, where they live, what they do for a living.

So long as illegals are getting all the benefits of legals currently, anyone against amnesty are dreamers. The reality and dreaming are quite different in my world. May be that explains my phenomenal success in everything I have done in life. I make an effort to face reality on the ground.

It is not and I gave you the reasons why.

So long as illegals are getting all the benefits of legals currently, anyone against amnesty are dreamers.

They are not getting all the benefits of legals, which is why they are pushing for an amnesty.

It’s a thoughtful comment

No, though, it is not exactly the same as amnesty and it is a dangerous fur render to look at it as such

One: a stamp of approval would be a demoralization to us and to the constitution. Much worse than it is given credit for.
Two: anyone who dreams that any one of these lawless creatures would sign up in greater numbers tha Americans signing up for health care (0 in five states. That is zero in five states!) is in a dream land and should check his prescription pharmaceutical medication intake, including any hormonal, especially and then be honest about alcohol intake, because that is NOT gonna happen

Not happening

aha....but then we can separate the real law breakers from those who will acquiesce to the amnesty law...the more acceptable bunch. Those who register will get a card of sorts. Those who don’t won’t have the card and police can turn them in to ICE. But all this has to wait until the community organizer from Chicago is out of office.

well.....what they are really looking for is to be able to vote LEGALLY. Now they just have to vote illegally. No ID’s required in my state to register on-line and all voting is by mail. Fraud galore!

They get food stamps ( I meet them in the grocery store every fricking time I am there), their kids are attending K-12, some states even grant them in-state college tuition.

Actually, most of the illegals are here to work and escape their home countries. Many are not interested in becoming citizens except to reap the benefits it offers. It is their Democrat masters who want to use them politically to bolster their voting rolls.

You must live in Washington or Oregon. Why doesn't the GOP in your state work on getting tougher voter ID laws?

They get food stamps ( I meet them in the grocery store every fricking time I am there),

Usually, they get the food stamps thru their American born children who are US citizens via birthright citizenship. They are entitled to all the benefits of any citizen including food stamps, Medicaid, welfare payments, etc.

their kids are attending K-12,

SCOTUS decided that in Plyler vs Doe in 1982. The court struck down a state (TX) statute denying funding for education to illegal immigrant children and simultaneously struck down a municipal school district's attempt to charge illegal immigrants an annual $1,000 tuition fee for each illegal immigrant student to compensate for the lost state funding.

Back to the main point. There is a quantum jump from so-called de facto amnesty and real amnesty. Rubio, McCain, Schumer, Graham, Gutierrez, Ryan, and the rest of the pro-amnesty crowd would like to blur the difference, but it is a chasm. Don't fall for it.
