IDF won't confirm reports of foiled Hamas drone plot in West Bank

On Friday, it was reported by the Times of Israel that Palestinian Authority security forces recently uncovered a Hamas terror cell that was "plotting to launch unmanned aerial vehicles laden with explosives at Israel." From the Times of Israel:

During intensive activities near Hebron, in which PA security authorities arrested Hamas activists at the city's university, officers uncovered a terrorist network in the advanced stages of planning to launch a UAV into Israel. Multiple suspects were arrested and the plot was foiled.

Investigation of the cell found that Hamas operatives had already run several test flights on the drone, and had intended to attach explosives to it in order to strike targets in Israel.

Israeli defense officials confirmed the report and noted that the PA security forces had recently chalked up other unspecified impressive achievements in their fight against terrorist groups operating in the West Bank.

During Operation Pillar of Defense in November 2012, Hamas' UAV infrastructure in Gaza was targeted by the IDF. The Israeli Air Force "inflicted severe damage to Hamas' UAV infrastructure," the IDF said at the time.

Reminds me of the tow Canadian terrorist enabler/sympathizers caught in Egypt with amateur drone tech as they tried to enter Gaza:

two small remote-control helicopters? With two GoPro cameras — tiny video cameras that can be carried on those drones?

That combination — a four-propeller drone, plus a GoPro video camera — had been used by rebels in the Libyan civil war, too.

Were Loubani and Greyson trying to smuggle them to Hamas in the Gaza Strip? Or did they use them in the Cairo riots?

Thanks for the link. The fact that these makeshift recon drones were also used in the Libyan civil war shows that this crude but effective technology is widely known to Al Qaeda groups. This science will evolve into who knows what? I can imagine these small aircraft could be fitted with a shaped charge to attack oil and gas storage facilities or an airliner.

Hey, seems now a days everybody has drones.

Were I live the largest new industry to move into the area is a school for drone pilots. It is partially funded with a federal grant and they have built an airstrip.
