In what could be the most bizarre development in the ongoing debate over the Washington Redskins nickname, TMZ reports that a neighbor of team owner Dan Snyder, Aris Mardirossian, has trademarked the name "Washington Bravehearts."
The report states that the trademark application filed by Mardirossian says that he plans to use the name for "entertainment in the nature of football games."
Mardirossian, who reportedly lives on the same block as Snyder in Potomac, Md., is an affluent patent investor who developed a relationship with Snyder a few years ago when the two men battled the county in an effort to cut down trees on their lots.

Oh great. Now there going to offend the descendants of William Wallace? Or at least Mel Gibson. And you know you don’t want to piss Mel off. He cray cray!
What a stupid name for a football team. Geesh it is downright embarrassing.
PC going overboard again.. When people get offended FU is the best response with no apology.
“Braveheart Potato Salad” with burgers on the grill doesn’t sound right either.
But “brave” is an Indian word!
I believe Snyder is really considering it but if there’s enough uproar against it Snyder will back down.
Trademark hinges on USE in commerce, and if he doesn't actually start a football team and use that name, then his trademark claim is worthless.
I think they should be renamed the “Squaws”.
I like DC Shysters!
As a descendant of Scots, I consider using Bravehearts as the name of a mascot to be offensive.
And will they shorten the name to “Braves” and offend the descendants of Redskins?
What about ‘Gayhearts’?
I like it because of what it implies about the fight for freedom from government oppression
I thought sports teams were generally named after something fearsome that related to the local area?
So, why not name the team: Washington Communists?
that is hilarious
or just change mascot to the potato of that name (redskin)
WASHINGTON TEA PARTY
...they dressed as Indians you know.....
I still like the this quote (maybe attributed to Greg Gutfeld?):
“The most offensive aspect of the name Washington Redskins is the word ‘Washington’”
How about the Anacostia Slappahoes?
Washington Ho Dawgs except the Hos might be offended
How about the Washington Wasters. That would truely be emblematic of the nation’s capital.
LOL! I had not heard that. Thanks for the post. It was a good laugh for a change.
or... Washington Spendaholics
That one has to make the short list!
I think the Washington Welfares is most apt
or maybe... Washington Revenuers
more like Washington Manures, my apology to poop.
Washington Pussy willows
How bout the Washington Criminals.
The Washington Fascists.
The Washington Hypocrites.
Meanwhile, their NFL neighbor up the road in Baltimore is accepting $130,000 in taxpayer money to promote Obamacare.
Well now we know the name is going to change.
A state university in the former Indian Territory was known as the Redmen for decades. Recently, they came under PC pressure. They are now knows as the River Hawks.
Those pushing PC couldn’t care less about the mascots or team names. They just want to exercise power to make change — under the guise of social benefit.
Notice that it is always a ‘majority of a few’ that cause these changes against the ‘minority of many’. Notice also, that those making the most noise usually have little or no connection to the institution where they are trying to make the name change.
They get the name changed; they win. Next ...
Washington Sellouts. Every time they have a packed stadium, you can say the Sellouts sellout again.
Oddly enough, the year after the students at Scottsdale Community College named their team “The Fighting Artichokes” (really), with school colors pink and white, they made all-state.
So maybe the Redskins could be named something funny, demeaning, or politically correct, and become a winning team:
“The Flaming LGBT’s”
“The Quantitative Easings”
Washington Casino Operators.
Someone on an earlier thread suggested Washington Statists. I like that one.
My last submissions.
Both have great possibilities for mascots.
How about the Washington Despots? h/t Neal Boortz.
