Appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press, former Pennsylvania Senator and 2012 presidential candidate Rick Santorum bashed Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), saying that Cruz’s crusade against Obamacare had ben counterproductive. “I would say in the end, he did more harm. I think it was not his objective," Santorum said.
He continued: "I think his objective was a laudable one. I think he didn't do a very good job of planning it out. I think it's one thing to have a goal and another thing to have a plan to get you to that goal…Unlike the Democratic party who has a leader, has the president, there isn't a leader in the Republican Party right now. That's part of the problem. That's part of the mess and the confusion. But that's always the way it is with a party out of power. You have lots of different faces and those faces, as we've seen, they come and they go."

I used to like Rick. I voted for him for senator three times. He used to be refreshing, a genuine conservative. But now? Whew.. No thanks, Rick.

Rick Santorum is loyal to the establishment in the end.
He was always a darling of the GOPe aligned National Right To Life and in 2004 went to Alaska to prevent the Alaska Right To Life group from endorsing a Republican Senate primary opponent to Lisa Murkowski who was backed by Sarah Palin.
If I had lived in PA, I would have voted for him for Senator too. However, I never fell for his schtick as a true conservative. I don’t think he ever was, except on a handful of issues.

In the thin field of candidates running last time, he was not the worst. So if it was Santorum versus Romney, Santorum was the better candidate.
But he has disqualified himself if Cruz is in the race, for sure.
And he has tipped his hand that he doesn’t intend to fight against obamacare. In an important fight, where is he? Quiet, except when attacking conservatives. That doesn’t speak well.
If he runs against Jeb, I’ll have to decide then. I won’t vote for Bush even against Hillary. And that’s saying something.
I’m suspicious of it all - even Cruz- he looks good, sounds good, but he is still an Insider, too. Wife works for Goldman Sachs. He once clerked for Rehnquist, which isn’t a bad thing. Just sayin’....

I think you're right. Santorum has shown himself to be petty and jealous at times.
Santorum is no liberal, but he is a pragmatic. Able to see the failure of Santorum, Ted Cruz recognizes that GOP-e types like John Cornyn hate conservatives even more than people like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, if that even is possible, and that you can’t work with them.
Never forget that the GOP-e supported Gerald Ford, even as Reagan was smashing through the 1976 Republican primaries, nominating him even though he was hated in every corner of America and would (and did) certainly lose to the most ridiculous goober the Democrats could dig up.
Then in the 1980, when Ronald Reagan could win simply by saying, “See, I told you so,” the GOP-e desperately ran another Republican in the general election, trying to siphon enough votes off Reagan to re-elect Carter.
That’s right, folks: the GOP-e supported Carter over Reagan. And that’s when most of the Southern leadership of the GOP — that is, the rest of the GOP-e — were Democrats.
