In honor of the 50th anniversary of the 10/22 next year, Ruger is holding a design contest to pick a new 10/22 model. Appleseeder mac66 was of the opinion that the best 10/22 they could make would be a factory made Appleseed LTR.
He entered the concept LTR Ruger 10-22 - and it was accepted as one of the ten finalists to be voted on by you, the public.
We need this rifle to be put into production by Ruger! Therefore, we need you to go to Ruger's website, and vote for it - vote for the design by "Gary from Michigan"!

You're allowed to vote once a day, until the voting closes at the end of the month.
Currently, we are in Second place. Is that where we want to be? I don't think so.
If you will vote, making a point to vote each and every day (let's watch to see as we climb up to first!), and tell your friends to vote, we could see a Ruger 10/22 LTR in production next year - click-adjustable factory sites, the whole works!
This is a great way to help out Appleseed! And a painless way! Plus, the suspense of watching to see if we can move our guy up to first place.

don’t know the significance of the word appleseed. it is not spelled out. I do not think that Johnny Appleseed had a 10-22.

LTR means “Liberty Training Rifle” and the concept is to develop a ‘perfect’ training rifle for the novice.

But, what we really need is a “Made in Texas” modern equivalent of the M1. For every able man in Texas to own one or two.

Take the time to do an Appleseed weekend. Well worth it.
Heck, if you can take a week off, do their week-long “train-the-trainer” boot camp. Yes, you’ll get to shoot a lot, but you’ll learn even more...and meet some fine people.
Agreed. But we need production on a gun friendly ground. Obozo shut off the re-importation of the M1s recently, what better than a modern version made in the USA.

shot SASS for 7 years....shot Large Bore Rifle NRA with Garands. Shoot very little these days....mostly do to age and all its trappings. a week in any kind of ‘boot camp’ could seal my fate.
but think I will stick to occasional plinking and 2 days waiting for Bambi to come to my stand.

Gary’s submission is well-suited to and Appleseed event, where shooting is done primarily at 25 yards. It has click adjustable sights, the auto-bolt release, and the extended mag release. Those are the things that jump out at me as “must have” upgrades. The list below is and excerpt from the Appleseed Forum. It starts with why some of the other rifles aren’t the best choice, but also tells why Gary’s IS the best choice.
1. The custom stocks, bull barrels, VQ and Kidd parts, etc. are all easily available aftermarket parts but are not Ruger products. Ruger wants this to be a Ruger product that will sell many thousands. Some of those customs are at a price point that most 10/22 customers would not consider paying. The dedicated benchrest and bipod rifles are too single-purpose for most people.
2. As an Appleseed instructor I see dozens of shooters every month of all ages and sizes struggle with their ill-fitting 10/22s. The buttstock, being designed for using the Ruger OEM blade sight, is too low for peep sights and scopes. and we have to improvise cheek risers. The LOP is short for adults and long for children. When laying the rifle down, many beginners allow the muzzle to drop, causing scratches or worse to the crown and even possibly bore obstructions on a snowy or muddy day. This rifle solves all those problems.
3. The take-down sets with standard and bull barrels do not solve any of the above problems.
4. Gary’s submission included the auto bolt release.

It seems that the 10/22 models do not include click adjustable sights - the adjustable aperture (peep) type sights made by Tech Sights have several advantages.
The majority of models do not include sling attachment studs/swivels - the sling is used in some shooting positions to increase accuracy.
Ruger now includes an extended magazine release lever that increases efficiency - however many aftermarket levers that extend farther toward the trigger guard are available.
