A Wisconsin man was arrested last Saturday after he punched two men he believed were speaking Spanish even though it turns out the pair were conversing in Hebrew, not Spanish.
Dylan T. Grall, 23, was walking down Henry Street in Madison, WI just after 2:00 AM when he passed by two men he believed were speaking Spanish. According to the police incident report, Grall proceeded to swear at the pair and demanded they speak English. He then punched each of the two men in the face, leaving one with a swollen eye, while the other victim fell to the ground with the impact of the assault.

Well. Isn't that embarrassing!
I don’t think I have ever heard of anything so strange.
BTW, I knew it was a White guy because it didn’t say 4 guys attacked an 80 year old man.
This jackass should get three years just for stupidity.
Hebrew certainly doesn’t sound like Spanish. I’d say he’s a low-information puncher.
They must have been Sephardic Jews...............;^)
I wonder how many will get the pun?.................
Some always do, others... well not so much.
In uber-liberal Madistan, to boot!!
Now that the invasion is so massive, it’s finally coming home to places it never used to be.
The upper mid west and northeast sneered at us in the West when we complained of the cultural and linguistic tsunami we were being subjected to, and kept voting for the Fellow Travelers who enabled it.
Now the chickens are coming home to roost. It may be a case of mistaken identity, but the underlying reality is now there: a foreign populace, assertive and hostile, is pushing into new territory and daring the American populace with their audacity.
In California, the surrender has been outright. Mexicans will be an ethnic majority within the next 8 years. They are already a plural majority.
In other parts of the Southwest it’s a mixed bag, but their relentlessness will keep them pushing for their language, their laws, their hegemony.
So now you know, middle Westerners. They aren’t “immigrants”. They’re Invaders, pushing as hard as they can to get what they can get. If you are weak...they will take what you will not defend.
If that means your language, your country, your nation...too bad. You let it happen. Assimilation is for losers.
That’s their position, America. What’s yours?
Dylan T. Grall, 23, was walking down Henry Street in Madison, WI just after 2:00 AM...
Walking, or staggering drunk?
This guy probably couldn’t tell the difference between a kreplach and a taco................
But English, German, or Polish is OK?
Had it been some Islamic yoots giving a beat down, this would be excused.
Hitting someone for speaking Spanish in my neck of the woods will get you a serious butt kicking.
..so you’re fine with punching people for the crime of speaking Spanish? That’s what your screed seems to imply.
I’m guessing he dumps that spam on all threads with the word “spanish” in the title, and doesn’t bother to read them.
He thought they were speaking Spanish? That’s bad enough on it’s merits, but Spanish sounds nothing like Hebrew.
Now I must say this does seem entirely reasonable ..
The two victims of this moron might be lucky he thought they were Hispanic, rather than Jewish. If he had recognized Hebrew, he would have done much more than a sucker punch to the face, I’m betting.
Just a comment. In the Southwest, up until 1975 or so, Spanish was unheard. If people were speaking it in public, most people would stop and stare.
It was considered rude, and un-American. After all, we fought a war against that nation.
Having been born on land bought by our nation - the Gadsden Purchase - I can safely say that there is no dispute in the American mind over whose country it is, and what language is the language of the nation.
There's only one group of people disputing that, and doing so by making their choice a fact....and typically as the result of a crime, that of entering the United States illegally.
What happened in Wisconsin is predictable, and the result of malfeasance. It's not going to end quietly.
There is no civil right to invade, occupy and colonize the United States. Period.
I knew a guy in the Air Force that admitted to driving past an Hassidic Jew that was hithhiking and yelling “Quaker!” at him. He said as soon as they got past him, he raised the middle finger on his hitchhiking hand. Too funny.
While I have no idea whether or not it was considered rude or "un-American" to speak Spanish in the American Southwest in 1975, I do know that it was common enough to speak Spanish - and Hebrew - in the streets of New York in 1975.
Those Spanish speakers were not Mexican, but Puerto Rican.
As such, they were born American citizens on American territory - and they fought disproportionately to their numbers in WWII, Korea and in Vietnam.
Here's my question, blowfish: Should people speak English in the streets? After all, it's the language of a country whom we fought two wars against.
That sounds pretty un-American to me.
Madison man arrested for punching man in face for “speaking Spanish”...This is very odd for Madison. Now, if it said, “Madison teacher punches legislator in face for praying...” I’d just shrug.
FReep mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Is Wisconsin Man related to Floriduh Man?
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
It wasn't. That's complete BS.
Very wisely put. I, too, shudder at the invasion of violent, hostile Israelis... /S
Interesting legal problem. If you attack someone who you think is a protected minority, and it isn’t, is it still a ‘hate crime’?
I have been know to call out: "Mas cerveza, por favor!" Want to take a swing at me tough guy?
Really dumb and shocking comment. Madison is a university town with an enormous student population, some of them foreign students who have come for the argricultural programs. Some of them Americans studying French, German, Spanish, Japanese literature. The United States has foreign tourism and visitors from all over. Should they be beaten up in the street for talking to each other in their own language(s)? Would you like it if American travelers in Rome or Geneva or Prague were beaten up in the street for speaking to each other in English?
That cretin looks like he couldn’t tell a tailpipe from his own rear end with a guide dog and a map, on his best day. Too too bad the guys speaking Hebrew weren’t versed in Krav Maga. Then perhaps they could have educated him in the error of his ways. What an anal orifice!
Singing now, “I will be a rich man, deedle, deedle, deedle, da! All day long I’ll sit and count the sum, deedle, deedle, deedle, dum!”
Stating ‘Not taking the bait’ basically means ‘I don’t have an answer’.
We defeated the Japanese in World War 2. If two people walk by speaking Japanese, I *mind my own business*. I don’t stare at them, speak rudely to them or punch them in the face. If that makes me a Leftist, so be it.
Too bad the two victims weren’t carrying...
Drunk does something stupid somewhere in huge nation of 300 million.
National news story!
It’s pathetic. No pretense at all to be anything other than propaganda.
How drunk was the perp?
And you would hear people speaking in several local American Indian languages as well.
There has been a daily Spanish newspaper in the southwest since 1926.
There have been Spanish language radio programing in the southwest for almost as long(1932)
Only if you went to the various reservations. Unheard of in the cities.
We used to go to the Pascua Yaqui Indian Easter ceremonies when the reservation was in Tucson proper; the old one at Grant Road and the Freeway. Bout the only time I ever heard anyone speaking in their dialect. In the movies they had them speaking in Spanish, which was hilarious - they hated Mexicans, and still do!
In any event they moved out to the new reservation West of town (New Pascua) and hardly ever heard from them these days. Certainly not in the city. Maybe some Papago (Tohono O'odham) at the casino....
Navajo, Hopi and Pueblo people were around in Flagstaff and Gallup mainly; true they spoke in their languages, but virtually all knew/spoke English from the Rez schools. Still do. They would normally switch to that when in town in general.

Sure. Used to give 'em away for free in the 7-11's back in the day. Make good cat litter box liners.

Um, one AM station in Tucson, and another in Phoenix. Don't know about El Paso, probably similar prior the 70's. Texans were even more hostile. The clear channel stations from Mexico all broadcast in English.
Even in Yuma and El Centro of the old days it was all English...or else.
Know why? Because the Americans were determined to make it their country. Why do you think the La Raza uprising happened? They saw an opening and started agitating in the '60s. They knew they could push around a generation of weaklings, and coattail off the black civil rights movement.
But since you're obviously not from them thar parts, you wouldn't know about that, wouldja? All ya got is Google.
Truth is, the Southwest was hardcore. It was speak English or be viewed as a foreigner. That comes from the fact that the Southwest is really an American creation: the Mexicans never got much North of Magdalena. Sure, the missions were erected, but that was to convert the Indians so the King of Spain could credibly claim them as his "subjects". That all fell apart after 1821. The big cities of the Southwest were All American: for example, Phoenix was not a Mexican town, it was started by Jack Swilling, a Confederate emigrant.
The other places like the Old Pueblo in Tucson were tiny outposts on La Frontera, erected to protect the missions, but mainly to keep Apache and Comanche from raiding South. All that was obliterated after 1848.
But now that it's a stunning success, the Campesinos are flooding to El Norte to steal what they could not make. And their Fellow Travelers in the Democratic party, eager to equate borders with racism, are all for it. So much for the interests of the white American working class, right? After all, they're just living in trailer parks, clinging to their guns and bibles.
Suspect you're down with that position.
The funny thing is that when you try to change history to make it what you believe it should have been you not only weaken your argument and drive away potential allies but you are acting exactly like a democrat.
Perhaps you should reexamine your tactics as well as your facts.
In other words, the Americans as illegitimate occupiers.
Yours is the rhetoric of Rudy Acuna in Occupied America, the real "screed" that you are taking your cues from ("We were always here. Dees Eees Ahr Lahnd, Greengo!").
I assume nothing. I lived it. You clearly did not. Not one thing is wrong. That's the way it was, and in many ways still IS, at least in Arizona - although the Left (you) has been trying to break it down with Revisionist History for the last 40 years.
