Obamacare Forces Over 800,000 in N.J. to Change Insurance Plan

Plans that no longer cover federal requirements will phase out in 2014

More than 800,000 New Jersey residents will be forced to find different health insurance as plans that no longer cover the Affordable Care Act’s requirements are phased out, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reported on Sunday.

Those in the individual and small-employer markets will only have three insurance providers available through the health insurance exchange. Of the 800,000 needing new plans, at least 50,000 senior citizens will need to find new plans. The Star-Ledger reports:

Horizon sent notices to 50,000 of its New Jersey members explaining to seniors that their current plans will not be available next year.

Brian McGuire, associate state director for AARP New Jersey, said these changes may be frustrating to seniors forced to change plans, but it is an overall benefit for Medicare recipients. That’s because the Affordable Care Act provides financial incentives to insurance plans that are ranked highest for quality of care and customer service.

“Any time a senior has a plan they like and have to change, that’s not a positive, but we have a much better assurance that there are higher-quality plans being offered,” he said.

I have lost my advantage plan which I liked. My wife and I now have to find an alternative which will be limited to an HMO type that will reduce doctor coverage and plan options.

We did not vote for Obama by any means, and many of the seniors in New Jersey, by my survey of the two elections did not either. Don’t blame us for the Camden, Trenton Newark voters.

I imagine that the requirement for all the bells and whistles was from the insurance companies, to spread the costs overall around. Maybe if the requirements were more age appropriate for the consumer, it would be easier to swallow, I dunno.

Find it soon. I believe prices jump substantially for a January 1st Obamacare plan start date. eHealthInsurance.com has a 12 month price lock in plan which is probably soon gone.

Barack Obama, September 9, 2009: “Nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have.”

I have no health insurance, so the President says I don’t have to change that.

Oh, so they’re being “forced to change their plans.”

Guess that’s not the SAME AS being dropped from their plan?

Who can keep all of this straight?

No, it's not the same as being dropped because Advantage Plans are being totally canceled, as in not being there anymore. The Feds have never liked Advantage plans because they cost the government more money than non-Advantage plans.

I remember seeing/hearing McCain rave on the senate floor against the AARP Advantage plan.

I never had an Advantage Plan as you had a group of doctors to choose from, but couldn't go out on your own and get a doctor not in their plan.

It’s apparently easier to riot than to vote for Steve Lonegan.

Horizon sent notices to 50,000 of its New Jersey members explaining to seniors that their current plans will not be available next year...some 'rat jerk on Kelly tonight claiming that seniors all over the country getting notices of changes in their policies wasn't unusual at all, because these were Medicare Advantage plans and they tend to change every year - forgot to mention that Obama stole three-quarters of a trillion dollars out of Medicare funding, most of which came from the Advantage Plan program, in order to apply the money to the rest of Obamacare to try to make it look "affordable".....
