According to this tweet, David Barton is being recruited to run against John Cornyn for the Republican Senate nomination.

If you would like to see David Barton Run for the US Sen against Cornyn.. please leave an encouraging note here… https://t.co/8xYmmfIln7

— Ginger (@gingerdr) October 28, 2013

The link leads a Facebook group titled: Draft David Barton for US Senate. According to the page,

This group is set up to alert the grassroots that there is a movement taking place that would like to encourage David Barton with Wallbuilders to run for the US Senate against John Cornyn.

Currently, the group has 394 members.

I hope he runs since it would shed more light on his history lessons and other curious statements.

UPDATE:

Apparently, there is some buzz building about this idea. This supporter of Barton believes the rumors are legitimate. As of the morning of Oct. 29, the group now has over 1000 members.

Cornhole is already running his campaign ads. He is touting himself as the second most conservative Republican in the Senate. Somehow, I doubt those credentials.

I'm not completely up on his record, but does anyone have his voting record and issues support that he has put his name to that is less than conservative?

I like Stovall’s positions but he’s really a long long shot and not getting much traction.

Anybody but Cornball, but Barton would have a tough time winning a general election, with the apparent surge in TX for the popular Wendy Davis. Now a GWB judge has struck down the abortion-restriction law which Davis filibustered against.

Liberals will react with venom toward this guy. They just go over the top with opposition to him.

I was President of our local Library Board in Wisconsin when another Board member suggested purchasing his videotapes for our collection. The Library staff threatened to walk off the job if we approved the purchase. Such a ruckus!

I encouraged the Board members to watch his tapes, double check the content, etc. and learn all we could about him. I thought that the tapes were a worthy addition to our collection and that the reaction of the staff told me a great deal about them. It all came to naught, however, when 2 of the Board members came up with the money themselves and donated copies of the tapes to the Library.

I left the board shortly after that, I I bet that those tapes were “lost” or misplaced shortly thereafter.

I would love to see Barton in the US Senate.

Cornyn is careful to vote conservatively, as demonstrated by the below ratings. However, his real inklings were made clear when he was head of the NRSC. He endorsed or funded every single moderate over every single conservative. He endorsed both Arlen Specter and Charlie Crist, both of which then became democrats. He endorsed Mike Castle. He funded Lisa Murkowski even though she wasn’t the republican nominee. He withheld funds from Sharon Angle and Ken Buck when it was most needed. Time after time, he has demonstrated himself to be a RINO in the mold of Mitch McConnell, who also has a very good and carefully contrived conservative voting record to fool the people.

Cornyn (TX) - 03/04/14 - 87% (Average) - 85% (Heritage) - 82% (CFG) - 88% (ACU) - 92% (FreedomWorks)

Apparent is all it is. Her support will be minimal.

Barton would likely be a more dependable conservative than Cornyn, but I fear he would be easily torn apart. I first heard David speak in the early 90’s at a local church. Since then I have bought a number of his books and DVD sets. But in recent years I have come to realize all too often he played fast and loose with history and some conservative Christians have called him on it. It’s not so much that he makes things up. It’s that sometimes he conveniently leaves out details that don’t support his overall thesis. And as my pastor used to say, a half truth is a whole lie.

Barton has reawakened popular interest in many of the Founders who we had taken for granted or forgotten. If you are going to accuse him of “playing fast and loose” with history, please cite one specific instance.

Cornyn has come fast out of the gate, spending tons of money to tout his phoney conservative credentials, hoping to shock and awe any potential big name primary opponents into staying on the sidelines. These credentials are accrued by posturing, as we just saw in the ObamaCare defund battle. He votes for cloture to advance Ocare knowing that few understand that that was the key vote (and that it was not scored by the various rating organizations) and then votes against Ocare when his vote no longer matters but is scored.

As for John Cornyn's legacy as Chairman of the NRSC -

Cornyn's handpicked Senate candidates:

Arlen Specter - Democrat
Charlie Crist - Democrat
Lincoln Chafee - Democrat
Lisa Murkowski - Independent

Republican candidates stabbed in the back:

Ken Buck
Sharon Angle
Christine O'Donnell
Joe Miller
Larry Elder
Charlie Summers

The voting records have been contrived for some thirty years now. Members are told in advance what they must vote for x, y, and z, or against a, b, and c, etc. There is a good chance that those who voted against Cruz on the shutdown, including Cornball, won’t even be graded for that treacherous vote.

Whether it's Barton or some other committed scholar and devotee of the ideas of liberty, America needs statesmen, not Party figureheads--men and women who will articulate and defend the ideas and facts underlying its Declaration of Independence and "People's" Constitution.

Many so-called "conservatives" are as mislabeled as are so-called "progressives."

Articulating and defending the principles and ideas of liberty for individuals, as laid out by the 85 essays of THE FEDERALIST (explanations of the Constitution), and the Framers' own explanations of individual liberty and limited government should be standard for examining a candidate who calls himself "conservative."

Future generations will judge of this time in America's history as the period when their own ability to possess Creator-endowed liberty and opportunity was either lost, or when it was recaptured by a generation of courageous and brave persons who won the battle of ideas.

Here are some questions which may help us in considering potential candidates for 2014 and beyond:

"1. Does this legislation or idea increase, or decrease, individual freedom and creativity?

"2. Does this legislation or idea increase, or decrease, the power of some citizens over other citizens?

"3. Does this legislation or idea recognize that the persons who will exercise the power are themselves imperfect human beings?

"4. Does this legislation or idea recognize that government is incapable of creating wealth?

"5. Does this legislation or idea authorize taking from some what belongs to them, and giving it to others to whom it does not belong?
If 'thou shalt not steal' is a valid commandment, can we assume that it is meant to apply only to individuals and not to government (which is made up of individuals), even if those persons in power pass laws which sanction such redistribution of the wealth of others?'

"6. Does this legislation or idea encourage, or discourage, the very highest level of morality and responsibility from the individual?
. . .when government makes actions 'legal' by some citizens at the expense of other citizens, the result may be behavior which would not be considered possible by individuals acting alone.

"7. Does this legislation or idea propose that the 'government' do something which the individual cannot do without committing a crime?"**

**7 principles drawn from James R. Evans book, "America's Choice: Twilight's Last Gleaming or Dawn's Early Light," and reprinted in a Stedman Corporation (Asheboro, NC) booklet entitled "I'm Only One, What Can I Do?

I read excerpts of his Jefferson Lies and found it compelling reading. Sadly, his academic critics succeeded in getting his publisher to shut down printing of new editions. The link below is a meaty source. It is to World magazine, a Christian periodical. They did excellent coverage on the homosexual/ Boy Scout debacle earlier this year.

By the way, Thomas Nelson recently pulled Barton’s book on Jefferson (”Jefferson Lies”?) off the shelves for lack of historical integrity.

Thanks for the reference to World magazine. (Though they didn't need to use such an unflattering photo.) IMO David Barton has been the victim of an academic lynching.

His book, Jefferson Lies was a masterwork, getting professors all over the place to think twice about labeling Jefferson a Deist, and calling into serious question Jefferson’s “wall of separation” belief. Barton reminded us that Jefferson recommended using the Bible as the main textbook in elementary schools, and also found that Jefferson had given permission for church meetings to be held in the U.S. capitol building. Some wall of separation!

His finished manuscript was 110,000 words long, but the Thomas Nelson editors cut it to 63,000 words, eliminating documentation that answered questions later raised by his critics. After this publisher was taken over by a new company they dropped the book, which was then picked up by Simon and Schuster.

Barton has made history more popular than his dry and dusty critics. I love his books.

Cornyn voted for cloture (against Cruz in the Senate’s Obamacare defunding vote) along with some 27 other Senate RINO’s so he should be primaried to scare some sense into him a la Rubio with immigration reform; and yes he is running ads in Texas showing him wearing an LBJ-style (ill fitting, perched on his head) cowboy hat touting his conservative credentials.
