The recent fiscal crisis has opened a major rift between the tea party wing of the Republican Party and business groups that traditionally have backed Republicans, with many business leaders now vowing to get involved more in GOP primaries to try to counter insurgent candidates.
Tea party leaders are defiant, saying they will not change course despite criticism from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable and other top business groups.
But business leaders argue that the scorched-earth tactics used by tea party Republicans during the 16-day shutdown and debate over raising the federal government’s borrowing limit marked the fourth time since the GOP took control of the House in 2011 that tea party adherents precipitated a governmental crisis that zapped consumer and business confidence, raised uncertainty and exerted a major drag on economic growth.
Besides encouraging more business-friendly candidates in primary contests, business groups are rallying behind establishment Republicans such as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Republican who is being targeted by tea party activists for brokering a deal to temporarily raise the debt ceiling and reopen the government, while launching a negotiation with Democrats over budget cuts and proposed tax and entitlement reforms.
Business executives agree with many tea party goals such as cutting the deficit and reforming entitlement spending, but they argue that conservative lawmakers have erred in their tactics and wounded the economy by driving the government with increasing frequency into states of crisis and dysfunction — this time for the ultimately unsuccessful cause of trying to force President Obama to cancel his health care law.

Looking at that list of members, I’d say it will be easiest to list who we CAN buy from. For instance, Walmart and Target are both out, so does that mean Shopko is OK?
Express Scripts is what is with our insurance (so far anyway), so I don’t know if we have any option, except maybe the local pharmacy but Express Scripts gets its money from Blue Cross’ subscription to their services, and they get the money whether we use their service or not. If I understand correctly.
I’ve been wanting to move our loan for a long time but we don’t know how long we’re going to be here or whether we’d pay off the cost to move the loan before we leave.

These “big businesses” are only interested in themselves and playing nice with the liberals. They are not on the same team with us.
The Dems and GOPe promise these pigs MORE govt spending in return for contributions.
Tea Party politicians should promise them LESS CUTS in government spending for contributions.
The present level of spending just can’t be continued. Cuts have to be made. The biggest impediment to cuts is the business and media support for politicians who support raiding the economy to increase consumer spending.

Here goes the myth making of the MSM and GOPe. There was no scorched-earth tactic. The TEA Party had several good fallback positions. It was the GOPe, Democrat-controlled Senate and Pres. Obama that refused to deal.
The crisis was imaginary and a political construct designed by Obama and the Democrats to maximize pain and uncertainty. It was Obama and the Democrats that talked down the economy, raised uncertainty and made a standard budget debate into a mess.
The final item is going to be a big talking point and it is a myth that we need to destroy right now. What drag on the economy?
Don't let them get away with these lies. The biggest drag on the economy is fiscal policy that: 1. distorts incentives via taxation and subsidies; 2. spends more than we get in tax receipts; 3. misallocates capital in the productive economy; and 4. wastes money in the public sector on political pork projects.
The proper response is to: 1. end the distortions via mandates (ethanol, etc.), bureaucratic overreach (rain water and CO2 as pollutants?), and taxation/subsidies (simplify the tax code & reduce tax burdens on productive activities); 2. Balance the budget (Ryan's plan is a training wheels program, but if that's what you can pass, then pass that and cut again when we've got a majority or a President); 3. reduce burdensome regulations on industry (jobs, jobs, jobs); and 4. Attack the basic waste we see in government (Obama had to work to make Americans miserable at 90% government, that proves we can reduce discretionary spending immediately) and rein in entitlements (SS reform, Medicare and Medicaid etc.)
There's been an explosion in the "disabled" and that needs to stop. We need to win the WH and use the Commerce Clause aggressively to end non-compete laws at the state and local level. It can be done, but you have to win. That means working with RINOs and Democrats on areas of agreement.
Indeed. Those who talk about "stopping the Tea Party" are idiots. There is no "Tea Party". We are the Electorate. In many districts we are a supermajority. Run your little puppet RINO candidates in those districts and watch them lose.

I would like to know if there are food manufacturers I should avoid though. Just to be consistent. We do have a holiday meal with trimmings for family and do a bit of baking and candy making for gifts.
This situation is simply another in a long list of mythology about the tea party supporters that is being used to court business donors and savage Dem opposition. When a party has a propaganda engine of the size and viciousness that the Dem party has, the truth is irrelevant. Business will face gross revenue pressures because a nation that is on the dole is not a nation of good customers. The working people of America, who comprise tea party supporters, is losing income to the socialist fed govt. That weakens bus revenues.
I just received a short briefing from a bus specialist who reports a year-over-year decline of about 20-30 percent in retail sales of home maintenance products in a very blue-state are of the US. This is a repeat of the prior year’s declines and reflects economic pressures that should not exist in the US. There should be strong economic growth after the disastrous declines of a few years ago. This country is in seriously bad shape. Young people who don’t know what normal American prosperity is are facing mediocre jobs opportunities and strained prospects for economic success. The situation is bad and needlessly so. Tea party principles are counter that situation—that needs to be made clear and repeated continuously.
The loss of wealth during the “shutdown” often touted by the left is ephemeral if not chimerical. The real damage is appearing in lost health insurance, higher taxes, and a perpetual suppression of economic growth.
The tea party and its supporters, whether in DC or in regular America, were right. Business would be wise to court these new leaders and consider a more hopeful future for their companies.
The left’s propaganda engine can attack us all they want, and they will attack mercilessly, but you can’t avoid facts forever. We were, and are, right.

By my way of thinking, if it has more than one layer of packaging, put it back. If you employ that method you'll find yourself avoiding a lot of companies.
We pretty much do that already.

The problem isn’t so much “Big Business” as its Globalist Corporations run by men who see themselves as global citizens, hate nationalism and hate American nationalists most of all.

Big Business = Democrats. Large corporations give equally to both parties, and lean towards those in power. Small business tends to be more conservative.
