Debunked Christian Historian David Barton To Run For U.S. Senate? (their headline....)
Opposing Views ^ | October 30 2013 | Michael Allen

Posted on 10/31/2013 7:51:45 AM PDT by ConservativeDude

Two Tea Party groups recently declared war on Republicans who voted to end the government shutdown.

The Tea Party Nation and the Tea Party Leadership Fund want to run Tea Party-approved candidates against sitting Republicans as punishment for being "traitors."

One Tea Party favorite, debunked Christian historian David Barton, is rumored to possibly run against Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), notes Warren Throckmorton at Patheos.org.

A "Draft David Barton for US Senate" Facebook page has been set up and currently boasts 1,445 members.

One pro-Barton advocate claims on his blog that "last week a meeting occurred between Tea Party leaders and a representative for Barton. Sources report both sides left the meeting encouraged. Right now, speculation Barton might run is 'legitimate.'"

Not mentioned by any of his supporters is how Barton's most recent "historical" book Jefferson Lies was pulled by its Christian publisher Thomas Nelson in 2012 for historical inaccuracies, noted NPR.

In addition to his dubious book, Barton has tried to justify the genocide of Native Americans, claimed that atheism, evolution and Darwinism are "religions" and rewritten the words of Jesus Christ to oppose the U.S. tax system.

Looks like Cornyn might get an opponent after all?

Though this is from some lefty publication, it seems there is a facebook page you can go to to "like" this possibility.

That is, if you want a strong, superconservative to run against Cornyn. If you are satisfied with the assistance that Corny gives to Cruz, well, then....that's your business!

One thing the GOP needs to realize: Cornyn cannot (as of now) win a general election. He has alienated Cruz supporters, and there are a lot of them.

That is why Texans need to find a legitimate candidate to both give Cruz some more assistance, and to keep this seat out of the democrat hands.

Yes. But apparently Glenn Beck is going to republish it once Barton sells all his existing Nelson copies.

Atheism is a religion.

There was a thread simular to this one. Anyone apposed to the idea of Barton running should read the reasons why he is a good pick on it. Barton has been falsely accused by liberals and so-called "Christian Conservatives (who write on Lib blogs)" alike.

David Barton is the Founder and President of WallBuilders, a national pro-family organization that presents America's forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on our moral, religious and constitutional heritage.

http://www.wallbuilders.com

About Wallbuilders...

WallBuilders is an organization dedicated to presenting America's forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on the moral, religious, and constitutional foundation on which America was built – a foundation which, in recent years, has been seriously attacked and undermined. In accord with what was so accurately stated by George Washington, we believe that "the propitious [favorable] smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation which disregards the eternal rules of order and right which heaven itself has ordained."...

...WallBuilders' goal is to exert a direct and positive influence in government, education, and the family by (1) educating the nation concerning the Godly foundation of our country; (2) providing information to federal, state, and local officials as they develop public policies which reflect Biblical values; and (3) encouraging Christians to be involved in the civic arena.

David Barton would be the worst possible Republican candidate. He has a degree in Christian Education from Oral Roberts, not a history degree; yet he is touted as the best Christian historian in America. It has been clearly demonstrated he has falsified his histories - 55 Christian historians have signed a petition against his work! The Democrats would make mincemeat of him and discredit conservationism in the process.

"The other two may or may not be but Atheism is definitely a religion."

In the loose sense of the word, they are. "Natural selection" (the underpinnings of Darwinism/evolution), has morphed itself into believing that if species can arise from species, then wind the clock back you can get organic material from inorganic. See Stephen Meyer's book Signature in the Cell. The late 19th cent. scientists simply "believed" that spontaneous life arose from chemical reactions. Today, those clinging to this false belief system (and losing ground daily) are the true "religionists".

Dear Jane, If you think that Ted Cruz is kookie, then you will definitely think that David Barton is kookie. They believe in the same things. They are both articulate and can handle hostile media with ease.

Dear Backwoods Engineer,
Most of the low information voters get their “news” from the Comedy Central. In order to reach them, our politicians need to be able to hold their own in that arena. If you take the time to listen to both parts of the 2012 interview, or go back to the 2011 interview, you will see that David Barton can more than hold his own in that arena.

From what I have gathered, Barton is not a liar, but he is guilty of choosing quotes out of context. For instance, Thomas Jefferson was indeed pro-Christian, and actually said at one point “I am a Christian...” but taken together with many of his other writings that Barton doesn’t talk about, it becomes clear that what Jefferson meant was that he admired and followed Jesus’ moral teachings and believed they were good for the nation...but he probably would never think of himself as a born-again believer washed in the blood of the savior.

I think Barton is only “guilty” of doing what the left does shamelessly: they read history in light of their worldview and that of course gives one a perspective.

I think all in all, his tone and take on the history of the Founders is objectively correct.

Of course he is going to get a fact here and there wrong, that is all part of the gig.

But we have to keep in mind that he has been doing this now for twenty or thirty years, basically alone. Not only does he have no collaboration, he has to fend off the left. So perhaps from time to time he has an overreach. That should be expected, and welcomed.

I don’t hear the left being embarrassed the The People’s History of the United States, which is complete balderdash driven by ideology. I don’t think Barton is the equivalent on the right....but I do think he is the equivalent of mainstream historians who have a worldview, and insert it anywhere and everywhere, without disclosure, without apology...and often without even knowing it.

Barton is a huge breathe of fresh air.

Were that there were thousands like him.
