Debunked Christian Historian David Barton To Run For U.S. Senate? (their headline....)
Opposing Views ^ | October 30 2013 | Michael Allen

Two Tea Party groups recently declared war on Republicans who voted to end the government shutdown.

The Tea Party Nation and the Tea Party Leadership Fund want to run Tea Party-approved candidates against sitting Republicans as punishment for being "traitors."

One Tea Party favorite, debunked Christian historian David Barton, is rumored to possibly run against Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), notes Warren Throckmorton at Patheos.org.

A "Draft David Barton for US Senate" Facebook page has been set up and currently boasts 1,445 members.

One pro-Barton advocate claims on his blog that "last week a meeting occurred between Tea Party leaders and a representative for Barton. Sources report both sides left the meeting encouraged. Right now, speculation Barton might run is 'legitimate.'"

Not mentioned by any of his supporters is how Barton's most recent "historical" book Jefferson Lies was pulled by its Christian publisher Thomas Nelson in 2012 for historical inaccuracies, noted NPR.

In addition to his dubious book, Barton has tried to justify the genocide of Native Americans, claimed that atheism, evolution and Darwinism are "religions" and rewritten the words of Jesus Christ to oppose the U.S. tax system.

Looks like Cornyn might get an opponent after all?

Though this is from some lefty publication, it seems there is a facebook page you can go to to "like" this possibility.

That is, if you want a strong, superconservative to run against Cornyn. If you are satisfied with the assistance that Corny gives to Cruz, well, then....that's your business!

One thing the GOP needs to realize: Cornyn cannot (as of now) win a general election. He has alienated Cruz supporters, and there are a lot of them.

That is why Texans need to find a legitimate candidate to both give Cruz some more assistance, and to keep this seat out of the democrat hands.

I’d prefer Louie Gohmert or even Tom DeLay (that give them fits too) but Barton is still better than Cornyn

Did Thomas Nelson publishers really pull his book because of historical inaccuracies?

Yes. But apparently Glenn Beck is going to republish it once Barton sells all his existing Nelson copies.

I'm not sure Barton is the candidate for it. He seems to have a lot of baggage.

Have you ever heard David talk? He has appeared several times on John Stewart's Daily Show. He is about as kookie as Ted Cruz.

Atheism is a religion.

The other two may or may not be but Atheism is definitely a religion.

Maybe so.

Got any ideas?

Gohmert isn’t going to do it. It is getting late in the day.

There was a thread simular to this one. Anyone apposed to the idea of Barton running should read the reasons why he is a good pick on it. Barton has been falsely accused by liberals and so-called "Christian Conservatives (who write on Lib blogs)" alike.

They all have baggage. It's only publicized when the candidate is a conservative.
