I don't see this article as a criticism of Obama. I
see it as a criticism of conservatism and the Tea Party.

We don't have national health insurance, we don't have gun control, we don't have government financing of elections, and so forth. Friedman is a statist. Although he made some good observations in “The World is Flat,” almost all his policy recommendations involved more government spending, more government programs etc.

I cannot think of a single government program that Tom Friedman wants to reduce or eliminate. Quite a contrast to the other Friedman (Milton).

Didn't THIS Friedman once write an article lamenting the fact that we aren't supposed to be living under a dictatorship or authoritarian government, like Red China?
