Skip to comments.Ray Nagin: The final chapter (bribery, conspiracy, money laundering trial postponed third time)
Posted on 11/03/2013 9:17:00 AM PST by Libloather
Former Mayor Ray Nagin's federal trial on 21 public corruption charges was postponed again last week for the third time. The former mayor is now set to stand trial on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014. If and when Nagin does go to trial or if he pleads to a reduced charge it will be the final chapter of Hurricane Katrina's political arc.
Guilty or innocent, Nagin's fate will bring closure to a city that arguably suffered as much after the storm as during it, thanks in large measure to the former mayor's failure to implement a recovery program with any traction.
Nagin faces six counts of bribery, one count of conspiracy, one count of money laundering, nine counts of wire fraud and four counts of filing false tax returns. All of those are major felonies, which means Nagin faces a lot of jail time, even if he's convicted on just one or two counts.

Ain’t visited the Chocolate City since Katrina....over smelling piss and vomit.
Ray Nagin pointed his boney finger at Bush when he failed miserably during before and after katrina. Nice to see the chickens come home to roost......eventually
And it should be repeated that Ray Nagin is a good Democrat.
I will never understand how the liberals politicized a hurricane and blamed it all on Bush. Ray Nagin is a Democrat. The governor at the time, Kathy Blanco, is also a good Democrat. Local officials normally take the lead in disaster relief efforts when a disaster strikes. Yet somehow, the Democrats blamed everything on Bush and Republicans.
Bush actually declared Louisiana a disaster area the day before Katrina hit, because it was clear that it was an historic storm and damage would be severe.
And, under our laws, the federal government waits for state and local officials to request specific help when disaster strikes.
But none of that matters to the liberals. All that matters is scoring the political points. Which the liberals did, as everyone from the talking heads on TV to the likes of Kanye West blamed racism and Republicans for New Orleans flooding.
I often wonder what the reaction would have been if John Kerry had won the 2004 election, and had been president when Katrina hit. Would the liberals and the media and Hollywood idiots still have blamed Bush; would they still have blamed the federal government for ineptitude if their own guy had been in charge????
Appears they are being niggardly with their justice system.
Self serving corruption and total incompetence is what one gets when one elects these ones.
Perhaps we should stop giving these ones power and authority to abuse.
I know that’s what I’m going to do.
Bush actually declared Louisiana a disaster area the day before Katrina hit,.....Also Bush begged the Gov. To implement disaster procedures WRITTEN and was put off. I remember an article (long gone now) that Harry Reid called the Governor’s office (at least 50 times) telling her to ignore the Presidents entreaties, they would blame him and will be OK.
One was a drunk and the other was a coward!
No plea deal for this “chocolate” thug.
Lock him up with his fellow corrupt negro politicians like Kwame Kilpatric, Monica Conyers, Jesse Jackson Jr. and dozens of others.
Bribery, conspiracy, money laundering.
Sounds like the senate.
Of COURSE they would! That's the power of Bush Derangement Syndrome.
Uh, gee, funny thing, the “journalist” didn’t list the party affiliation. Just an oversight, I’m sure. Thanks Libloather.
He can share a cell with Detroit’s former mayor.
Just for grins, go read the article. Every time you see Nagin’s name, substitute nobama. Amusing.
Nagin was an “R” for a few years in the 1990s, wasn’t he?
