The U.S. government has just passed a new law called: "The affordable boat act" declaring that every citizen MUST purchase a new boat by April 2014.
These "affordable" boats will cost an average of $54,000 - $155,000 each. This does not include taxes, trailers, towing fees, licensing and registration fees, fuel, docking and storage fees, maintenance or repair costs.
This law has been passed because, until now, typically only wealthy and financially responsible people have been able to purchase boats. This new law ensures that every American can now have a "affordable" boat of their own, because everyone is "entitled" to a new boat. If you purchase your boat before the end of the year, you will receive 4 "free" life jackets (not including monthly usage fees).
In order to make sure everyone purchases an affordable boat, the costs of owning a boat will increase on average of 250% - 400% per year. This way, wealthy people will pay more for something that other people don't want or can't afford to maintain. But, to be fair, people who can't afford to maintain their boat will be regularly fined and children (under the age of 26) can use their parents' boats to party on until they turn 27; then must purchase their own boat.

Next we need the affordable airplane act.
I like the boat I already have. Can I keep it?
Can I have the USS Zumwalt??
I already own a pretty good sized yacht. If it meets all the new regulations, can it be grandfathered in?
What kind of boat ? I/O or Outboard ?
I prefer “The Affordable Car Act”.
Only the evil amongst us have the Cadillac Plan.
I’ve always wanted a submarine. A SSBN would be great but I’ll settle for one of those really nifty Diesel-Electric jobs that the Krauts are building. Does the subsidy apply to foreign built stuff?
If your yacht does not have a maternity ward below deck, it will sadly have to be scuttled.
I don’t know. Call the Affordable Boating Center and ask one of their Experts.
And not much is known about it yet except it has been Christened the "Queen Barry."
All of these posts are too funny. :-) I can retire tonight with a smile on my face. :-)
Selfish big shot...HE’s happy with his 85’ yacht with the crew of 9. I’m suffering with my 26’ Chrysler ragger and can’t afford that new Nuke powered outboard.
The ABA (Affordale Boat Act) may well be my last chance to have a “fair share” of the enjoyments of the waterways, which are owned by everyone and not for just a favored few.
I’m as good you he is, and I’m ENTITLED...the President told me.
Awesome. The Affordable Piracy Act . . . but I guess I’ll have to procure my own parrot . . .
you can’t make any changes to it once the law passes, or it will lose grandfather status.
i guess cash for clunkers was the deathcare panel on old cars then.
not to be outdone, al sharpton found the nearest mic and said ‘RESIST WE FLOAT!’
If you like the boat you currently have,
You can keep the boat you currently have. Thats a promise.

After this, the “Affordable Chevy Volt act”?
I’m waiting until they pass Mediboat and get mine for free.
Next in line: the affordable house act, the affordable food act, the affordable millionaire act, the affordable car act, the affordable dishwasher act, the affordable Jacuzzi act, the affordable new stove act, the affordable barbecue act, the affordable HDTV act, the affordable sport franchise act, the affordable plane act..... Welcome to socialism, Obama style. When there are no absolutes to govern society, society becomes the absolute. We are there now.
LOL! Thank you all for the hilarious replies.
....That is unless you have a substandard boat, i.e. a catamaran or other unsafe multihull, or a boat with a rot-prone wooden hull, or any other idiosyncrasy that BHO gets into his head, in which case you won't be able to keep the boat you already have.
But not to worry! You can log onto boarcare.gov and find a BETTER boat for far less money than you are spending on that current bad apple you got saddled with by that fly-by-night shady operator. Your NEW boat will feature cast iron plumbing, solar panels and a complete urine recycling system!
I am assuming the “Affordable Boat Act” provides free ‘Berth’ Control?
Great! Now I can trade my old boat in for a bigger, better (govt subsidized) boat.
He should be with Junior.....
the two of them in the same cell would be a deadly combo....
Thank God that society now realizes that boat ownership is a right, not a privilege.
It’s ok, cause it’s a tax!
I would call it poetic justice more than a deadly combo
Is the boat only available full price, or is it on sail?
Now everyone knows that gun ownership is a legitimate constitutionally mandated right for all Americans. Why isn't the government buying guns for those citizens who are unable to afford their own firearms?
That would make a great platform for a candidate for Governor. Arms for the Armless.
i was being horribly cynical
imagine being in the same cell block as the two jesse’s...as they sweat to out poetify each other...
They’ll all turn out to be $54,000 rowboats.
I don’t have a use for a boat, but I do need all the free legal services I can muster. We live in a world created by lawyers made up of laws. Why isn’t legal services a right? Why isn’t it free? Shouldn’t lawyers work for free? Aren’t lawyers profiting off of someone’s misery? Why doesn’t every American have a right to best legal representation on the planet? (I’m snarking but this is the same meme used to get free healthcare)
However, if you have your own boat, you can keep your boat....PERIOD, and if you like your marina, you can keep your marina...PERIOD....what a relief, I thought he might be trying to regulate my right to buy the boat that I wanted......wheew
Pun of the day. Love it!!
I’d believe this, except the regime has to organize all the pleasure craft factories into the SEIU/UAW/Teamsters first.
I think most are non-union currently.
Nancy Pelosi said, “We have to pass it to find out what’s in it.”
Ask any doctor and he’ll tell you that’s the definition of a stool sample.
I hate to break it to you but 50 years ago in the case of Gideon v. Wainwright, the Supreme Court ruled that Americans have the right to counsel and if the person is indigent, counsel would be provided for free. It became the last two prongs of Miranda warnings.
The Progressive /Liberals have been doing this for a century. ;~)
