Maine governor candidate Mike Michaud: I’m gay
Portland Press-Herald ^ | 11/4/13 | Steve Mistler

The six-term congressman’s announcement in an op-ed column may influence the 2014 election to lead the state.
Maine political observers offered early reaction Monday to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Michaud’s announcement that he’s gay, ending years of speculation and potentially sharply changing the dynamic of the 2014 gubernatorial race.

Michaud, 57, currently serving his sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, made the disclosure in a column submitted to three of the state’s major news outlets. He said he was making the announcement in response to “the whisper campaigns, insinuations and push polls” that unidentified people have been using to raise questions about his personal life since he declared his candidacy.

“They want people to question whether I am gay,” Michaud said. “Allow me to save them the trouble with a simple, honest answer: ‘Yes I am. But why should it matter?’ ”

As congressman for Maine’s more conservative 2nd Congressional District, Michaud has long sidestepped questions about his sexuality. But on Monday he made it the subject of a column submitted by his campaign, which required strict reporting and publishing embargoes. Now, nearly a year away from the 2014 election, Michaud’s sexual orientation moves to the forefront, potentially dominating what was expected to be a highly competitive three-way race...

If successful in defeating Republican Gov. Paul LePage and independent Eliot Cutler, Michaud could become the first openly gay governor in the country. Former New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey revealed that he was gay in 2004, but the announcement coincided with his resignation and a blossoming public scandal.

"The word gay used to only mean happy"

And fagot used to only mean a bundle of sticks or in England a fag was a smoke. Which used to always crack me up watching Monty Python and they would say something like "Can I have a fag?"

Knowing what Maine has become in the last 30 years this announcement will wrap up the election for him....*unless* an opponent announces itself as “trisexual”.

I’m such a dinosaur that I just never understood the part about “pride” in Gay Pride.

What planet are you from, pal? The weeping pustules of rectal syphilis are worthy of enormous pride.I'm deeply ashamed to have never experienced such a beautiful thing.

Hmm, thought he had indeed but I think Wiki still said he was an Ind. Retiring? Ah! I know RI used to have Claiborne Pell as a Sen. or was it Gov or both and Howie called him “Stillborne”.

What are these faggots so proud of anyway?

Having successfully made a deviant behavior equivalent to race in the mind of the popular culture.

I think we are extremely guilty of spreading the gay agenda but not purposefully.

Who's "we"?

No, he officially became a Democrat back on May 29th. I think he believed it would help him with reelection (avoiding a 3-way race he was sure to lose, as he is extremely unpopular). Turned out he wouldn’t even be able to win a Democrat primary so he announced in September that he would not be running for a 2nd term.

Yes, Claiborne (AKA Stillborn) Pell was a 36-year Senator from RI (1961-97). He was the other rich, privileged leftist Senator alongside Missing Linc’s daddy.

If only the headline bothered to include his....."But why should it matter?"

Instead they act as though his penilphilia is a qualification for office.

Wordsworth himself could not have made it any more clear.

I suspect a Nobel Prize is in the offing.

Having already been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (I broke up a fight in the Bronx a few years ago) I'm always open to receiving the Nobel Prize in Medicine for my work on weeping rectal pustules.

No, but it race based voting does have its limits

Well, true.. since 100-0 is a finite result. Other than that, I haven't seen any kind of limit. While the rest of the country is getting rather disenchanted with Obama, blacks are still showing support for him in the 93% range.

Well, Van Jones thought back in 2012 that if Obama came out as gay, he wouldn’t lose a single black vote. Since Obama did no such thing, we cannot tell for sure at least on that score.
