Is Health Care Coverage Killing CNN's Ratings? (Media Should Ignore it)
New York Magazine ^ | 11/5 | Adam Martin

Posted on 11/05/2013 11:27:24 AM PST by nickcarraway

CNN last week experienced its worst ratings week since Jeff Zucker took over as president at the beginning of the year, averaging 385,000 viewers compared with Fox News's 2.4 million and MSNBC's 683,000. The New York Times' Bill Carter suggests that's thanks to too much coverage of the troubled Obamacare launch, which partisan viewers want to hear about from their own teams. "Friday's shooting at the Los Angeles International Airport drove viewers to competitors," The Hollywood Reporter asserted. If CNN can't win the ratings during a breaking crisis, it really is in trouble.

I actually thought CNN’s coverage had been much better than in 30 years.

Of course it will be bad news. The libs are expert at burying their head in the sand. If CNN pulls their head out of the sand, they’ll change the channel lickity split.

nick, I forgot to include that this Thursday CNN is broadcasting a program at 9pm, about a number of scientists who are fed up with the "old timer" environmentalists. They posit that the new generation has to move forward, take leadership roles in the environmental movement and promote nuclear power, not sunbeams.

No kidding. On CNN.

The problem is CNN has been so liberal so long that almost no right leaning people watch it anymore. Only liberals watch it. So if they have to cover something the liberals don’t want to hear - they are toast.

So the “news” media people finally openly admit to policing their own when it comes to bad news about the Zero King!

Me too! At least for the last 2 months. I remember Wolf Blitzer suggesting that democrats actually delay ObamaCare as Ted Cruz advised given the website problems.

Normally I am one who avoids CNN all together and only watches it if MSNBC is the only other alternative. I would watch Al Zarhera(sp) before I would watch MSNBC.

Wow! So they are proposing to volunteer to help clean up Fukushima? 3 nuclear melt-downs, dumping hundreds of tons of radioactive water daily, and the spent fuel pools have taken quite a beating and need help urgently! Terrific news! Let’s watch them “move forward!”

Good point! Have you seen MSNBC lately (last few years). Oh God they have gone far left. They are indeed the left's TV version answer to Alex Jones. I had an accidental dose of MSNBC at a place of business that had it on and after that CNN appeared just right of center. I think CNN is losing many of its left wing viewers to radical MSNBC.

Another problem CNN has is that most of its viewers are actually in other nations. I'm sure the ACA is boring for them to watch all day and all night. It's a popular issue here in the USA (as it should be) but it's not something people outside the USA really care about. It's an American domestic issue. You think this may also have something to do with CNN's ratings?

No not at all. I saw a conversation with one of the program (Pandora's Promise) scientists (a committed environmentalist) speaking about newer nuclear technology that would eliminate the melt-down disasters.

Point is, CNN is trying to drive the environmental discussion right from under the current cherished leadership whose only reason to exist is to establish a carbon tax.

WOW. 385,000 is not really very many people. Think if they had the same number of viewers as the number of people who are losing their health insurance?
