AMERICAN BLACKOUT- A Real Life Nightmare Nearer Than You Think
Family Security Matters ^ | by R. JAMES WOOLSEY, DR. PETER VINCENT PRY

Posted on 11/05/2013 2:49:26 PM PST by Carbonsteel

Four days before Halloween, on Sunday morning, October 27, 2013, terrorists in Mexico's Michoacan state blacked out the electric grid, leaving some 420,000 powerless and thirteen dead. That same Sunday night, National Geographic aired the docudrama American Blackout. This fictionalized account of a cyber attack on the electric grid depicts some of the horrific consequences of a nationwide blackout lasting 10 days.

Following links, I found an interesting discussion on YouTube headed by Fmr. CIA Dir. Jim Woolsey:

Fmr. CIA Dir. Jim Woolsey warns of existential EMP threat to America

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBfALe8X9C8

It's long, but worth watching during supper (or whatever) instead of, say "The Voice", even though I occasionally like watching that, too. :-)

Of note is that at one point Sarah Palin gets some credit for working toward protection of the grid in Alaska while she was Gov. Granted, I don't know if there's been any follow-through, but it stands to reason that energy rich states would have more financial capability to take action. The panel seems to feel that the states are where progress can best be made.

Peace can be found through attending daily Mass, recitation of the Rosary, and visiting Adoration chapels. Dear Lord Jesus, help US! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Adoration-Rocks/570319589689258

Actually, rural crimes are generally worse in collapsing societies. The level of violence increases with the distance from law enforcement. Even now, many crimes in rural areas exceed the level of violence found in many cities.

The statistics are not as apparent due to population densities. Though now rare, in the case of a major breakdown, the law of the jungle will hit fast and hard...

Cool, thanks for the link, will take a look in the AM.

I did just have my jaw drop watching The Voice, but that is entertainment (Jacquie Lee singing “I Put a Spell on You”). I also like to be informed.

No kidding. I don’t know of a single murder in the entire time my family has lived here (43 years). And I’ve never heard of one, which in a small town, would be fodder for decades “Oh that is where Josh Smith was killed by his brother in a jealous rage, back in 1951 *cluck cluck*. Poor boy, he was such a nice boy and his brother such a hothead”.

So it has to be 60-80 years, maybe more. Meanwhile, when I lived in the city, you guessed it. Within a year, there was a CSI team looking into blood trails across the street from a shooting.

I’ve been here since about 95 and we don’t even have a police department anymore. There are only 150 people here in town and a total of about 1900 spread over the 30 odd square miles that make up the township.

I’ve built relationships with neighbors and don’t even know where my house key is.

We have a Berkey light and we love it but the spigot does leak a little if its pretty full. We have the floride filters also but won’t be needing them when we are fulltime at the mountain house.

You can go to www.internetprepper.com and he has a water filter kit with spigot for$29.99. You order that kit and then go to Lowes and buy two five gallon food grade buckets and cut out a hole for the spigot and set it up. It works great. We have one as a back up and Mr. GG2 has made one for everyone in the family.

We keep three 55 gallon containers full of fresh water in the garage at all times.

Somebody posted that at the first sign of trouble you should fill up your bathtub and sinks and pots and pans. Probably a good idea.

Maybe, Maybe not. After all, once Martial Law is declared, they might not need any voters, and useful idiots are often some of the first to go.

I work in telecom and IT.

Have been warning about this for years. Utilities allow access to their SCADA systems [both monitoring and control] over the public Internet [with minimal security] in order to save a few bucks month to month.

What they should do is allow monitoring thru the Internet, but when alarms occur, they would need to dial direct via the PSTN into the site to access a dial-back modem [with password authentication] - before control access is granted.

This removes [to the largest extent] the possibility of unauthorized control of their systems - since control access is thru the PSTN.

Cost is about $1000/site one-time [for equipment] and about $20/month recurring [for PSTN line] ...

When the people in the urban areas flee the cities and go into the rural area to pillage and loot they will either have to help, move on, or fertilize the fields for years to come. It will be a bloodbath.

There is a neighbor down the road in our rural area that keeps some holes dug to put these fertilizer types in when they come our way. It's nice to own a backhoe and a bobcat.
