WashPost: Bill de Blasio wins mayor’s race in New York, ushering in new era of liberal governance

Bill de Blasio overwhelmingly was elected mayor here Tuesday, becoming the first Democrat to lead New York in 20 years and ushering in an era of activist liberal governance in the nation’s largest city.

In early returns Tuesday night, de Blasio was soundly defeating Republican Joe Lhota, a protégé of former mayor Rudy Giuliani.

De Blasio campaigned on a mantle of progressive change following Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s 12 years in office, highlighting what he saw as “a tale of two cities.” The moneyed Manhattan elite have had their mayor, he argued, and now the 46 percent of New Yorkers living at or near the poverty level need one of their own.

De Blasio’s administration will be a laboratory of sorts for modern progressivism — testing whether an anti-establishment activist can effectively manage a sprawling municipal government and lessen growing inequality between the rich and poor.

Goodbye, New York. Detroit is coming to you on a speeding Subway now.

All those with the means to get the hell out, should do so as soon as possible.

This is going to make the Dinkins Days look like the prosperous god-old-days.

I pity New Yorkers , those of whom voted against this piece of pig excrement . I agree , all good folks should get out , abandon ship. Let it descend into 3rd world rathole status .
Put a fence around it and call it good .

Good.

NYC deserves what’s coming to them.

Hope he raises NYC taxes 400% and makes it illegal to eat hamburgers and pizza.

F NYC and its people.

We have paid a steep, steep price to defend that city.

Sounds like very few of them voted against this communist pos. Didn’t have any plans to ever go to ny again. Feel bad for the few conservatives that are stuck there for one reason or another.

They still don’t understand that Detroit was not a fluke but the canary.

Compost commenters predicting ruin for New York. Well, at least they see the future.

It was the best of times, soon it will be the worst of times.

Do you think the WashPost has ever used the term “conservative governance”?

>> We have paid a steep, steep price to defend that city.

Surely you’re not referring to 9-11.

If they think there’s inequality between rich and poor now, just wait until the progressives really get in gear.

The only uncertainty about NY now is: Communist, Shariah or both?

Wondering if DeBlasio will order missiles and troops for the Thanksgiving day parade this year? Maybe even wear one of those dear leader jackets, to show New Yorks strength to its capitalist enimies and stuff.

The troofers are claiming that the democrat’s opponents were the ones behind 9.11.

In fact, there is plenty of evidence - now - pointing to Obama’s people and Obama himself having a finger in 9.11.

“If they think there’s inequality between rich and poor now, just wait until the progressives really get in gear.”

I’m beginning to believe that Solzhenitsyn was right, that the only way you can bring people out of the darkness of Socialism, and it’s ever-optimistic feel-good propaganda, is to make them live through it.
