The Irish Government has announced that it will hold a nation-wide referendum to seek approval for the legalization of same-sex marriage in this predominantly Catholic country before the summer of 2015. The Catholic Church said it will actively push for a rejection of this proposal.

I always had the stereotype that Ireland was an ultra-Catholic nation with extremely rigid moral values. Is that no longer true?
