The sweeping re-election of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie proves moderates are an integral part of the Republican Party, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky says.

“There’s room in the Republican Party for moderates, like Chris Christie. They seem to be the only ones that are winning in the Northeast,” Paul told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“The other thing that might happen in the Northeast if we had a little more libertarian-leaning Republicans, they would have a chance in the Northeast. But there’s room for moderates, like Chris Christie, and he’s got a place in the party.” …

Thing is, Christie and other GOP leftists are fine in states that want them, but they are party killers at the top of the ticket. This country doesn’t need more servile Republicans at the feet of the Democrats. We just ran two of them, and they failed.

Rand Paul appears to not understand just who and what elected the fat man to office. He was elected by libtards and independents, who have recognized Christie as who he is - one of them.

Christie is the closest thing to a Republican who can elected to statewide office anywhere in the Northeast Corridor. What would you prefer?

There needs to be room for both. That's how coalition politics works.

The thing is, that the Christies, McCains, Grahams, Roves, etc of the Party need to make amends ... real amends, not just cheap lip service ... for their treatment of Tea Party Conservatives. And they need to do it first.

There's not enough of either to sustain a national party on their own. If either the Tea Party Conservatives or the GOPe leave the party it becomes the Whigs.

Which is why I really blame Bill Bolling more than anyone else for Cuccinelli losing. He had a golden opportunity to build and strengthen the GOP coalition in VA, probably guaranteeing himself a US Senate seat in the process, but let his ego and pettiness (something also seen in Christie, McCain, Graham, Rove, etc) get the better of him.

The simple refutation to Rand’s postulation is the number of wins by “moderate” republicans in the last two presidential elections. The GOP and Rand can do whatever the hell they want, I will only vote Conservative, I no longer have a use for the Republican Party.
