Christie Win Shows GOP Has Room for Moderates

Yeah, 'moderates' have done wonders for the GOP and our nation.

God help us and protect us from 'moderates'.

The reality is that the GOP has to retreat on the social issues and press on the libertarian issues and economic freedom with these young voters. I can live with married gays down the block. I can’t live with a government controlled economy that kills the work ethic and individual economic freedoms.

I am finding more and more people thinking this way, outside FR that is.

Where did I say I was for illegal immigrants or expanding the welfare state?

What I did say is that for some reason a ton of 18-30 year olds want gay marriage. And that group right now is so stupid that they are going to vote that single issue. They view it as a “cool” thing and a “human rights” issue.

Well guess what, that block is pretty much what put Barry back in the White House last year and makes sure the Senate remains in D hands. And as long as those people are in charge, they aren’t going to stop at gay marriage. They are going to continue to erode the free market system in the US.

So if my choice is a GOP President who supports gay marriage but is fiscally conservative and free market, I’m supporting that candidate. The other choice truly does bring down the house.

You sound like the Democrats did when the GOP was winning all those Presidential elections. i.e. “The people are just being mis-informed” if they knew what was good for them, they’d vote for (insert Mondale, Dukakis, Gore)

And yes, while you might be a “young” Reagan Democrat, the truth is that most of those people were folks brought up under Roosevelt and Kennedy and they are now dead.

And to the point Pat Buchanan has made the past decade, those dead Reagan Democrats have not been replaced by people like them. Instead they have been replaced with immigrants and tons of kids raised in single family households under the watchful eye of our “public school system” which has indoctrinated the heck out of them.

By the way, I don’t like Chris Christie at all and don’t support him. I just know though that running the “purist” candidate like Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock is a losing strategy for us. We’ve got to find young talented candidates who can articulate a vision of economic freedom and as part of that, we may need to give on the gay marriage thing.

Uh, no. Susan Collins IS a Republican, which means we get numbers that gives us the Senate Majority position, which controls the agenda.

Ted Cruz would never win in Maine. He may not even win in my state of Missouri.

Big tent is not a pejorative, it’s a way to make a real, long-term difference.

And what will the agenda look like, when the Senate majority looks like Susan Collins?

He should attack Ayotte instead.

The other primary candidate was better. I doubt NH is begging for amnesty and war.

Theres no real control with McCainiacs; and Harry Reid with 41 more solid votes than McConnell has ever had.

Id actually be worried that some sort of amnesty lite immigration bill could pass GOP house control and GOP Senate control and the people will be asleep.

The official control of the Senate is just bragging rights against Obama’s agenda. If you have 49 or 50 GOP Senators you might be able to get Joe Manchin to vote with them on some issues.
