The Drumbeat Begins: Cuccinelli for U.S. Senate in ’14?
Bearing Drift ^ | 11-7-13 | Shaun Kenney

So sayeth the DC Caller:

Conservative writer Quin Hillyer is the first person to openly make a full-throated case for Cuccinelli to throw his hat into the ring to take on incumbent Sen. Mark Warner, a popular Democrat in the Commonwealth.

“The best news from Ken Cuccinelli’s hugely disappointing loss in Virginia’s gubernatorial contest yesterday is that Cuccinelli is now free to run for U.S. Senate against Mark Warner,” Hillyer wrote.

“Not that Cuccinelli will want to hear this now,” Hillyer elaborated. “He has a large family, and his day job as state attorney general will end in the new year, and he will need to make money somehow. That’s tough to do while running statewide for office. And it’s even tougher when one is already exhausted and battered from a long and brutal statewide race. But Cuccinelli is actually well positioned, politically, to make a go of it, even against an incumbent as seemingly bulletproof as Warner has been.

Provided he NEVER HIRES HIS CURRENT CAMPAIGN TEAM TO RUN THIS SENATE RACE PERIOD UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PERIOD this could reasonably happen.

I’d be a full-throated supporter. Besides, Cuccinelli’s resources will be better, and this will be a campaign where his national issues converge with his Virginia reputation and boom — Mark Warner will have more on his hands quicker than he can say “no one will lose their health care because of Obamacare” — right?

Thoughts?

UPDATE: Jim Riley over at Virginia Virtucon thinks it’s not just a good idea, but a masterstroke:

Cuccinelli can argue that Obamacare is hurting the economy and destroying full-time job opportunities as a means to hammer Warner on jobs and his failure to do anything significant in the Senate. No wonder Warner was part of the meeting of 16 Democrat U.S. Senators who are up for reelection next year to visit the White House yesterday to talk about the problems with Obamacare.

Boom.

hugely disappointing loss

Actually I think the closeness of the race is an encouraging sign considering the fact that he had to fight both parties and a 3rd party stalking horse.

If he wants to run, he’ll need a lot of money, and a lot of Tea Party help. He needs to stay as far away as possible from leftist backstabbers like Rove and Priebus and their minions.

Oh, yes: Since I'm a WEST Virginian, I'm supporting Pat McGeehan for US Senate ... to replace the execrable and retired rockefeller.

“I’d rather see Olly North run again.”

And I’d like to see Ted Cruz or Sarah Palin move to VA and run....but that isn’t happening, either.

On average a successful run for the Senate costs $10 million dollars. The average for a successful run at a House seat is $1.5 million dollars. If he can’t raise the money, and raising it was his problem here, then he can’t run.

His candidacy would continue the referendum against Obamacare.

Nope. Put someone else in. If Dems actually turn out, and nominate someone that everyone doesn’t hate, he stands zero chance. Wasn’t unimpressed with his credentials but horrible unimpressed with his ability to express then and his campaign acumen. Definitely a lightweight.

People HATED McCauliff and he still won.

At last count, I thought Cooch had raised more than $20,000,000 for the Governor's race. TMac just out raised him by $15,000,000 MORE. Of course he didn't get the extra $6,000,000 from the RNC like Bob did.

I’m not patting myself on the back or anything, but I had a full-throated post suggesting this on Wednesday morning.

What didn't impress you about Ken's credentials? First to sue on ACA, sued the EPA and won, and sued to release AGW proponent Michael Mann's UVA "research" papers as AG and as Commonwealth Senator was a second amendment champion with an NRA A rating - and I could go on. He had the support of all the Tea Party organizations because of his leadership in many fights for liberty. He was endorsed by Ron and Rand Paul and all the Virginia Tea Party and major liberation leaders. What didn't impress you?

He was out raised by the master fund raiser TMac (with our of Commonwealth money), out advertised (due to money)and demonized, constantly nailed by the press, had to run against a third party candidate (financed in part by the Dems), and not supported by the GoPe and still almost won.

If you look at the numbers, TMacs advertising drove more people to hate Ken. It wasn't even close.

But don't get me started...
