On ESPNs Around the Horn, frequent guest Kevin Blackistone of the Dallas Morning News said that football games should not include the singing of the national anthem beforehand, as that added to the military symbolism. He actually called the Star-Spangled Banner a war anthem.
Blackistone was addressing controversy over Northwestern Universitys American flag-themed football uniforms, designed to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. In a show segment titled Buy or Sell, Blackistone said that he would sell the uniforms:

I’m beginning to believe there are more morons in sports news journalism than in plain old news journalism.
The national anthem chonicles how we won our freedom. Freedom isn’t free; it has to periodically be fought for as Jefferson so aptly noted.
Makes sense to me. The anthem has NO PLACE at sporting events. It’s original purpose was to take peoples minds off how rotten life was during the depression. Patriotism is the last bastion of the scoundrel-works every time.
Boycott ESPN, who cares about sports anyway..
Deport the moron
People like this are the reason I have not watched any of these shows for a long time. He can say what he wants but I don’t have to listen and I choose not to.
I had read that the National Anthem playing at sports games started at the beginning of WW2.
Why are you even on FR?
Sports should be an escape from politics, not part of politics.
I care less about sports every year.
and life is not rotten now, under Obama and the congress-supported Obamacare?
Stop this nonsense.
I guess he would have them play “Kumbaya.”
Fire his silly rump.
Being a moron should be enough of a reason to fire an announcer who apparently has so little aptitude for sports he must deflect into a non-issue.
football thuggery, baseball druggies, nba lowdowns, and soccer mania-I will not watch any of it! Not supporting them ever again in any form...
>>He actually called the Star-Spangled Banner a war anthem.
George Carlin: “Baseball is played in a park. Football is played in a stadium. Soldier Field or War Memorial Stadium. Football you wear a helmet..is rigidly timed and will end even if we have to go to SUDDEN DEATH. In football the object is for the QB, the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense with deadly accuracy..with short bullet passes or long bombs he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing his assault to the enemy’s defensive line...”
Football is WAR
Ignore sports, America...you’ll need the extra money to pay for ObamaCare.
