Sen. Hatch touts Christie-Martinez ticket in 2016
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | November 7, 2013 | James Monteleone / Journal Staff Writer

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez would make a “great” 2016 Republican presidential ticket, longtime Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, told reporters Wednesday.

The endorsement of Martinez as a vice presidential nominee with Christie came after Martinez joined the New Jersey governor this week to help him campaign into the homestretch of his successful gubernatorial re-election bid.

“Let’s face it: Susana Martinez has a lot of qualities that would help a lot of people to understand that the Republican Party is a broad base party,” Hatch said.

Susana has to run for re-election next year and this and similar expressions of her being a VP candidate in 2016 won't help her win re-election. The local Rats, with infusions of out-of-state money, will have a field day using statements like this against her and touting her as only a place-holder until running in 2016 for VP. As for Susana, she repeatedly states that she is focused only on running for re-election and serving the state for another four years. Of course, even if she is completely sincere, it could be pointed out that her statement is what every candidate, Pub or Dem, say when their re-election would occur before a possible future campaign for public office.

And as for Hatch, the senile old RINO should retire back in Utah, the sooner the better. I used to be a fan of his, but after his statement yesterday in a Fox interview ("Cuccinelli would have won if a couple of Senators had not shut down the government.") he's nothing more than an embarrassment or worse a detriment to the people of Utah who elected him.

Christie might be the cat's pajamas to the media now. But if he gets the nomination, he will get the Mitt Romney treatment-- a guy who personally killed people with cancer and turned into a right-wing extremist.

. . . which is why we need someone like Ted Cruz who understands from the get-go that the enemedia will never be his friend and is willing to fight them to the finish line.

Sorry, but if Christie is the head of the ticket, I wouldn’t vote for him, even if he picked ME to be his VP.

I might vote for a Martinez / Christie ticket, but only after speaking to her Doctor to make sure she is in absolutely perfect health.

Now, you put up a Cruz / Martinez ticket, and I’ll give them money, and go out and campaign for them.

So Hatch must not like Governor Martinez. If he did, he wouldn’t be trying to tie her to Christie’s beached ship.

There was an article about a new TV sitcom series dealing with a group of dysfunctional politicians. The original script had all of them as Democrats. The series was taken on by one of the big networks and Gary Trudeau (yes, the same one who writes that incredibly offensive cartoon strip) is the writer.

Guess what? The “Democrat” politicians turned into Republicans in his script because he thought it would be “funnier.” In other words, another way of giving a bad image to the GOP ... in a show originally written about Democrats.

Yes indeed. I hadn't seen the below article and thread before I did a keyword search on "Orrin Hatch":

GOP Establishment Signals Primary Fight Against Tea Party Favorite Mike Lee

Tuesday, 79-year old Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), now serving his seventh term in the Senate, signaled that he and other members of the Republican establishment are likely to encourage a primary challenge to first term Senator Mike Lee (R-UT).

Hatch told the Deseret News and KSL NewsRadio that "[i]t's time now... for Lee and other tea party Republicans to be 'rehabilitated' for refusing to pass a budget bill needed to keep the government operating unless money for the act better known as Obamacare was removed."

In 2012, Ryan didn’t pull in WI and Romney didn’t pull in NH, NV, MA, MI or PA like we were told was going to happen.

I simply don’t understand why Mark Levin supported Hatch’s reelection. Even when Mark explained it (Hatch was apparently a solid conservative at one time), it still didn’t make sense.

How many times do we have to go through this process? How many times do we have to reelect senators who play conservative at election time but go squishy on us for six long years afterwards? When do we learn?

BTW, did you see the articles where Senator Graham is now fighting for a ban on late term abortions? Why, the man is a genuine, conservative stalwart!!! LOL! Sadly, I think he’s going to be very, very hard to beat, because the squishes have this process (of running to the right at election time) down pat.

“Let’s face it: Susana Martinez has a lot of qualities that would help a lot of people to understand that the Republican Party is a broad base party,” Hatch said.

Token female. Check.

Token Hispanic. Check.

RINO checklist complete - let's nominate her!

The gibsmedats are NOT going to be impressed. Better to run plain-spoken candidates who loudly advocate defunding of the professional indolent - that might get many absentee conservatives interested in voting, again.

Is Martinez a Natural Born Citizen?

Of New Mexico, no. Of Texas and the US, yes. The libs tried to use her being Texas born and raised in El Paso against her during her 2010 campaign (of course overlooked was the hypocrisy when then Governor Richardson was "Hispanic" because his mother was Mexican and he was born in Pasadena, CA and raised in Mexico City and Massachusetts). Both of her parents were US citizens by birth in El Paso.

I think both of them are just great, right where they're at.

We need to clean house with the Marxists in Washington. I love the fight in Ted Cruz. He may be better suited for Senate Majority leader.
I think Scott Walker with proven administrative experience would be a good choice.

Well, Hatch is on quite a roll. First he throws Lee and Cruz under the bus by blaming their filibuster for making Cuccinelli lose VA (due to the shut down association), then he is accused of trying to get the Utah GOP to tarnish Mike Lee, then he proposes stopping caucuses by Republican reps to keep control of the newer reps and now this. He needs to be put out to pasture.

I'd love it if Texas and Utah could come up with strong Cruz and Lee type candidates to challenge old-school/dim lite/GOPelitists Hatch and Cornyn.
