The UC Berkeley student government has banned the term “illegal immigrant” from its discourse, deeming the phrase racist, offensive, unfair and derogatory.
In an unanimous vote, student senators passed a resolution that stated the word “illegal” is “racially charged,” “dehumanizes” people, and contributes to “punitive and discriminatory actions aimed primarily at immigrants and communities of color.”
The “resolution in support of drop the I-word campaign” was approved 18 to 0 with one abstention on Oct. 30, according to a copy of the meeting’s minutes obtained by The College Fix.
Its approval marks at least the second time this semester that a public university’s student government has voted to eradicate the phrase. UCLA passed a nearly identical measure in late August.
There are an estimated 900 students in the country illegally who are currently enrolled in the 10-campus, University of California system, according to UC officials. These students live in “fear” because former Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano is now president of the UC system, according to the resolution, which aims to “create a safe campus environment for all students.”
“The ‘I’ word is legally inaccurate since being out of status is a civil rather than criminal infraction,” states the resolution, which notes some journalists have stopped using the term.
“No human being is illegal,” the resolution continues. “ ‘Foreign nationals,’ ‘undocumented immigrants,’ ‘immigrants without papers’ and ‘immigrants seeking status’ are examples of terms we can use that do not dehumanize people.”
The resolution also calls for administrators and faculty to attend an “UndocuAlly training workshop.”

Technically true...but irrelevant sophistry. It is their location that is illegal.
after they pick up a dictionary (a foreign language book to many of these so-called students) and see the definition of “illegal” and “immigrant” or “alien”, they should also pick up and read a copy of the Constitution of the USA (perhaps for the first time).
Then they must read the “Bill of Rights” esp. the First Amendment. Nah, that won’t happen in their miserable lifetime. They are so anally PC that you couldn’t get a colonoscope in there.
The “Free Speech Movement” in Berkeley, was, in part, Mario Savio anarchy and Communist Party totalitarianism, led by Bettina Aptheker, CPUSA, and daughter of Party theoretician Herbert Aptheker (Moscow’s so-called Party ideologue master).
Bettina’s name was unaffectionally “Bettina Batcrapper”.
I once asked old Herb, before an audience of about 500 people at a Temple Un. guest speaker’s program, about his talk on “self determination of people”.
I asked him that since he was so in favor of the “self determination of people” against repression, was he also in favor of the rights of the people of Hungary in 1956 to rise up against their Soviet/Communist slavemasters in order to exercise their right of “self-determination”.
My question got a few boos from the resident reds.
His answer as that this wasn’t an act of “self determination” but an attempt to reimpose fascism on Hungary.
The audience back then was smart enough to see through his dialectical bullshit. Point scored for the good guys.
Today, Aptheker would be the head of the Political Science department in most universities (even though he’s been dead for years).
You know the old saying: “Old reds never die; they just smell that way”.
I hope they try to enforce their policy. I truly do.
Undocumented Democrats.
I like “WETBACK” or “spic.” The former was used in a govt program to relieve America of those turd world savages: “Operation Wetback.” Of course, we don’t much care for real history.
Did they ban the term collaborator too?
They should change it to undocumented democrats
This is what it looks like when the inmates run the asylum.
Yet they are probably among those that wanted George Zimmerman prosecuted.
I wonder if they have the brains to realize the implications of "no human being is illegal" and "no act by a human being can be illegal".
If they get their way, we get to clean out the rats nest without worry of prosecution.
