This is what political correctness does. It bans certain language so as to further an agenda.

These people are illegal. We can discuss changing their legal status, but, the fact remains they are here illegally. We can’t state such a fact, apparently.

The term “illegal alien” was banned by the liberals years ago, because they felt that “alien” was a pejorative term.

A more precise term is “criminal alien”. I don’t suppose they’d like that one either though.

Technically they're correct. They are not illegal, but if you want precision the word criminal should be used.

Reference: 8 U.S.C. § 1325.
