FDA moves toward abolishing trans fats
Politico ^ | Nov 7, 2013 | HELENA BOTTEMILLER EVICH

Posted on 11/09/2013 12:24:30 PM PST by Innovative

The FDA announced Thursday that there is no safe level of partially hydrogenated oils. The move — unusually bold for an agency that typically leaves additive safety to the private sector — is the first step in what could be a long road to removing trans fats, which are still widely used to improve the texture and shelf stability of processed foods like frosting, doughnuts and crackers.

There is no safe level of consumption of artificial trans fats, Hamburg stressed.

Consumer advocates are applauding the FDA’s actions.

I do not understand that nobody seems upset over this.

This is just the tip of the iceberg -- with Obamacare kicking in, the government feels totally empowered to tell us what to eat, to keep us healthy, for our own good, of course, and to reduce medical costs.

Today they are banning trans fats, tomorrow bacon, sugar, and alcohol, of course, next is rationing meat... and where will it stop?!

Statism is “the winning side of history” according to the Press dent.

Liberty is on the “losing side of history.”

I hate to keep sounding like a liberal but to remove ugly excess fat from American Life, we need to start on the far... right!

The left says we will be better off once we are all eating greul in a tenement apartment without heat poring over the 4-page DAILY WORKER and turning in our cousin for political thoughts in exchange for a bottle of shampoo.

You are absolutely correct. This is just the beginning of the MarxoFascist intention of using food as a weapon of subjugation - all under the guise of ‘health’ - which the MarxoFascists have succeeded in taking over with ObamaCare.

How do you prevent an angry people from being a threat to your seat of power?

History shows that they will use food and basic necessities as a weapon to force compliance with their rule.

Stalin wiped out 20 million in the Holdomor using similar techniques and reasoning to collectivize farms in an area he wanted to exterminate potential disobedience to his rule.

Obama is about to do the same.

Trans fats today. Salt tomorrow. Beef and animal meat next week and it will be done under the color of the Obamacare ‘law’.

“Liberty is on the “losing side of history.””

The most scary thing is that nobody seems to care, people just accept it - the government is telling you already how much water you can use to flush your toilet, how big a light bulb you can use, now they are getting into telling you what food you won’t be able to purchase at any price because they determined they are not good for you.

And nobody is upset...

At least the Heritage Foundation bothered to write an article on it...

FDA’s Proposed Trans Fat Ban: An Attack on Freedom

http://blog.heritage.org/2013/11/08/fdas-proposed-trans-fat-ban-an-attack-on-freedom/

EXCERPT:

“This proposed trans fat ban is precisely the type of precedent that would allow the FDA to try to eliminate ingredients that are safe but possibly not as healthy, in the government’s view, as other options.

The FDA is trying to control what people eat. This isn’t even about behavior modification anymore, since the public has already modified its behavior in a way that meets the government’s wishes. The FDA is now playing the role of nutrition activist and ignoring the most important issue: the freedom of Americans.”

Trying to regulate one factor in a multivariate problem as a universal panacea, is the quickest way to cause an epidemic.

Why are there trans fats? Becasue in the 90s we declared all cholesterol was bad for you, so all fully hydrogenated oils were removed. Next we knew butter and olive oil turns rancid more quickly than the trans fats.

Next, count on more food spoilage due to rancid prepared food products.

I do not understand that nobody seems upset over this.

It's like health care. People won't be upset until they realize that they won't be able to buy pizzas or doughnuts any longer. By then it will be too late. It never bothers anyone until it affects them personally.

Next on Jacobson’s wish list is something that would be much harder for industry and the FDA to accomplish: reducing the salt in processed foods.
