Selectman Wants Gun Safety Enforced
Swampscott MA patch ^ | 11/09/13 | Terry Date

Selectman Barry Greenfield would like to give police the authority to inspect gun safety at people's homes. The problem, he said, is that police do not have the authority, granted by a local ordinance, to enforce the law and inspect the safeguarding of guns at the homes of the 600 registered gun owners in town.

I think that this doufus should try and do it himself. It's ironic that this guy is only around 30-40 miles from Lexington-Concord.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The Selectman and I have very different interpretations of "unreasonable", apparently. BTT

Don't the cops have some perps to catch and/or deter?

Are they done with those tasks already?

Given that it in MA, I suppose the fact that they are allowed to have guns at all is a miracle in and of itself. In MA, having a gun at all is probably one of life’s major blessings.

Damn 4th amendment. Damn whole Bill of Rights just keeps getting in the way of forcing people to do what we think is best for them.

Let’s just ditch the Constitution and let the government think for us.

Not surprising that someone with no respect for the 2nd Amendment has no respect for the 4th Amendment either.

Why not ask the cops to check the gun safety of the perps?

Why not bathroom safety - make sure they have some kind of non-stick surface in the shower? Why not kitchen safety? Or the myriad other ways people more often get hurt around the house?

Or hey, here's an idea... How about we don't live in a literal police state where they can demand entry into your home and deprive you of rights, privacy, property, etc.? If this fool really wants to re-create the good old days of East Germany he can {expletive}-well do it someplace else. I choose freedom and liberty.

Will the nanny stater grandstanders just give it a rest? Its just all for “me me me” attention. Didn’t they get enough love as a child? How about open access to your financial and phone records since you’re a public official? We need to make sure you’re not getting bribed or paid off by special interest groups after all. I mean if you want access to my home to come inspect my guns its only fair, right?

Yep. Right up there with having a conservative wife.

I have both. I am blessed.

PS- my wife is good looking, a little icing on the cake / grin

Disclaimer: I don't live in MA

What kind of person would advocate for such a thing?

Seriously.

Where does someone like that come from? How did their valeus get so far afield?

Ok, maybe I'm out of the loop, but what is a “registered gun owner”? Does that mean anyone who has legally bought a gun?

Or in Massachusetts do you have to register with some agency if you own a gun?

“Why not bathroom safety - make sure they have some kind of non-stick surface in the shower? Why not kitchen safety? Or the myriad other ways people more often get hurt around the house? “

Because 500,000 people with non-skid tubs cannot challenge the authority of the Powers That Be. It takes guns to do that.

There’s also that pesky 4th amendment. Step in my house without a warrant or being invited and you are dead.

I think we've identified the problem.

This man does not deserve to live in America. He should be set to some country where his dream of invading people’s homes can come true. Perhaps Afghanistan.
