Was Life Really Terrible For Gay Men in the Bad Old Days?

Posted on 11/11/2013 8:09:48 AM PST by ComtedeMaistre

The story of the first gay Bishop of the American Episcopal Church, Gene Robinson, is fascinating. His parents were poor, ignorant, redneck, tobacco farmers, who were fundamentalist Christians. Robinson was a gay child raised in the Bible Belt state of Kentucky, where he was taught hateful religious right doctrines that the definition of marriage is one man joined to one woman, and that no other form of sexual behavior was permitted.

Robinson's hillbilly redneck parents also required their child to attend Sunday School, where he had a perfect attendance record for 13 years. In these Christian religious schools, he was brain-washed with heterosexual supremacist propaganda, where he was taught that marriage to women was better than marriage to men. The brain-washing messed up the mind of the young gay man, which caused him to marry a woman, and have sex with her numerous times. The indoctrination that goes on in those fundamentalist Christian schools, can cause young gay men to do crazy things, like have sex with women several times.

Robinson ended up becoming the father of two beautiful daughters, and those daughters later gave him two equally beautiful grandchildren. Like all fathers, Robinson loves his children very much, and he was quoted as saying "I cannot imagine my life without Jamee and Ella". It makes perfect sense for Robinson to love his 2 children and 2 grandchildren, because, as a 66 year old man, he will have 4 people to care for him in his old age.

Other 66 year old gay men who were born outside the Bible Belt have to face retirement alone, with no children or grandchildren to take care of them. But, at least, they did not suffer the torture of being raised by poor, bigoted, ignorant, redneck, fundamentalist Christian, tobacco farmers from Kentucky. We should all thank the ACLU, the New York Times, MSNBC, and other liberal organizations, who are working to bring tolerance, in order to ensure that gay children are not raised by heterosexual supremacist hillbilly parents.

A teeny-weeny bit of sarcasm went into the above post, but it was mostly accurate. Here is wikipedia's version of the Gene Robinson story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Robinson

While I do believe that some men are born with very feminine traits, and there is a biological basis for girly boy behavior, virtually all men are physically capable of sexual intercourse with women. My advice to middle-class urban and suburban parents with gay children, who want to have biological grandchildren, is to get fundamentalist Christian rural people to raise your children for you.

Little Gene tormented all the male animals on the family farm as none of the neighbor boys would touch the little faggot with a ten-foot pole.

If he is gay, how did he manage to have two children by a woman? I thought gay meant “solely sexually attracted to the same sex”.

The liberal explanation would be that, because he was so oppressed by society, that he pretended to be a straight man, and married a woman. After all, to liberals, societal expectations and social norms are verboten.

I don’t want to delve into the mechanics of it all. If he was turned off by sexual contact with a female, similar to how we straight men are turned off by sexual contact with another male, it makes you wonder how it all happened. That is, if we believe the liberal line that gays are born that way and all that.

According to the liberal world view which I was trying to parody in my post, a gay young man who is subjected to heterosexual supremacist propaganda (also known as a normal parenting), can have his mind so messed up, that it can cause him to have sex with a woman. But liberals tell us that when gay men have sex with women, they do not enjoy it.

The Cristian message is hate the sin but love the sinner. Not always easy to apply in practice. It may require expulsion from Churches for practicing homos and keeping them away from our kids. But it does not mean that we should invade their privacy, refuse to hire them in areas where their homosexuality is not relevant to performance, or that everything they say or do is wrong. Unfortunately, the gays are not helping their cause by getting in the faces of the morally upright.

It wouldn’t be good for a child to have a very girly homosexual man as a parent. There is usually a kind of self-centeredness and hysteria to them that would make life miserable for a child.

The term [Fundamentalism] was born when conservative Protestants in early-20th-century America committed themselves to defend the five "fundamentals" of their faith -- the inerrancy of the Bible, virgin birth and deity of Jesus, doctrine of atonement, bodily resurrection of Jesus, and His imminent return.

Fundamentalist: A term created during the turn-of-the-20th-century Protestant church splits to define those who held to the “fundamentals” of Christianity—the inerrancy of the Bible, the virgin birth of Jesus and his literal resurrection from the dead. The term is now considered pejorative. (Wheaton College philosophy professor Alvin Plantinga famously observed, “The full meaning of the term…can be given by something like ‘stupid sumbitch whose theological opinions are considerably to the right of mine.’”)

My mom was a teenager in the '40s, and she said gay guys made the best dates, if she just wanted to go out, not looking for anything serious.

They were nice, they were gentlemen, they dressed well, bought her whatever she wanted, and she didn't have to worry about them putting the moves on her.

My mother told me she wasn’t even aware of the existence of “homosexuality” until she was well into her twenties. Ditto my grandfather.

I think I was about 12 years old. And it took me another year before I really even believed it! The thought of two dudes was just too unconceivably gross to fully register as a reality.

What a pant load. Of course he can imagine a life without Jamee and Ella, all he had to do was practice his perversions much earlier than he did, and Jamee and Ella would not have ever existed. Can there be any doubt that this affliction is a mental illness, and a particularly pernicous one at that?

sadly, we are entering an era where those who are born with whatever that “it” is that starts to manifest itself as same sex attraction, it will be soon verboten by mental health/religious professionals to help them work towards the goal of a mature, healthy, hetero sex life which welcomes children.

it requires no leap of imagination to consider that there are individuals who are both with SSA or have it foisted upon them, yet who still would like to marry and have children. Yet with their current mental/spiritual disorder, they find that prospect ...challenging.

But the new liberal views says that if you are born with SSA, then, de facto, you MUST act upon that and you MUST NOT seek help to change.

The individual be damned. Everything must serve the Party Line.

I don’t think gay men had it so bad back in the day. Overt public displays of affection were frowned upon for everyone so keeping it to themselves was generally enough for gays to get along fine.

I’m sorry, but Vicky Gene Robinson is a small “a” anti-Christ. Here’s a man who professes to speak for Christ, claiming to be not only a Christian but a leader of Christians. Yet, there’s no truth in him.

I pray for his sake that he repents, but how can one repent if one cannot even acknowledge their sin? That’s different from a sinner who knows they sin but doesn’t believe or want to repent. People like Vicky Gene embrace their sin and claim it’s good! They parade their sin with pride!

Even his arguments are Satan-like. Vicky Gene apparently thinks sodomy is OK so long as he stays in a committed, monogamous relationship with his male friend. He’s a liar who warps the truth in a way that it resembles the truth. He tells his followers it’s OK to sin and “You surely will not die!” Where have we heard that before?

Genesis 3:1-5 “1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from [a]any tree of the garden’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! 5 For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

“If he is gay, how did he manage to have two children by a woman? I thought gay meant “solely sexually attracted to the same sex”.

Like other mental, emotional, and spiritual disorders, same-sex attraction disorder can run a gamut of severity.

Some men who suffer from SSAD are unable to perform with women, some just have an aversion to it, and some are primarily attracted to women, suffering only periodic compulsions to engage in homosexual perversions.

The two ways women get AIDS are dirty needles and letting a man who lies with men nail them in the keister.

Long ago, I had a friend who was gay (but thanks to AIDS, is no longer walking the earth). He didn't "come out" until he was in his 30s and had been married for several years (to a woman) and later divorced. He said that sex with a woman was okay, but sex with a man was the icing on the cake.

Homosexuals suffer from a mental disorder. You can’t just take what they say at face value.

Before one could even look at that statement, one would have to confirm that he was molested or seduced during his pre-adult years (say, five to twenty).

Socon-Econ: "It may require expulsion from Churches for practicing homos and keeping them away from our kids."

A homosexual is no different than an adulterer, a drunkard, or a liar from a sin perspective.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 "9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God."

So it's entirely possible for a repentant homosexual to be a faithful Christian. That doesn't mean they won't still be tempted by the same weaknesses they had before they became a Christian, just like an alcoholic will likely be tempted to drink again. However, these urges to return to one's original sin grow much less as one grows in Christ (from my experience).

Now Vicky Gene Robinson is a different case entirely. He doesn't just suffer from homosexual temptation, he acts on it. Even worse, he claims his homosexual acts aren't sin! What does the Bible say about that?

1 Corinthians 5:9-11 9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; 10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. 11 But [f]actually, I wrote to you not to associate [g]with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one.

Christians shouldn't even sit down to eat with someone like Vicky Gene Robinson, and I haven't even gotten into the foolishness of making someone like him a church leader (That also flies in the face of scriptural guidance). This is why I would have nothing whatsoever to do with this apostate "Christian" or any church that would claim him.

My mom joined up in WWII and was assigned to work with the film and photography part of the War Dept in Washington DC - where she met some of the Hollywood crowd, she discovered lesbians and homosexual men because of that. She didn’t want to say which actors/actresses she found out were queer so I don’t have any dirt to dish. Back then it was - “the love that dare not speak its name” - but then there was Kinsey and all that. My experience was earlier - in kindergarten (1965) there was a boy named of all improbable things David Blossom, who had a girlish lisp and tailored suits that he wore and pale blue sweaters and back then when a kid had a birthday they were allowed to pick what game to play. He wanted to play duck duck goose, but added “instead of a goose I want to you to turn into a fairy.” He then pulled a tinkertoy “fairy wand” out of a paper sack and crooned “I’m first!” and began to flit and mince around. Needless to say none of us boys would budge if we were tapped on the shoulder. Not one. We simply refused to participate. I didn’t meet anybody else who was openly gay until high school in the mid seventies. Now you can’t get away from them. From “the love that dare not speak its name” to “the love that won’t shut the hell up.”

Your mom is certainly entitled to her opinion, but it’s possible for heterosexuals to act as nice gentlemen. I’m a happily married Christian, but if I was single, I wouldn’t put the moves on my date. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t be sexually attracted to her of course. It just means I want to live a life that is pleasing to my Lord. I can’t possibly be the only man like this. In fact, I know many of my fellow Christians (and even unbelievers!) who want to be better than animals driven by base instinct.

One of my teenage friends had a homosexual dad who had the “parties” and everything else that often goes with that lifestyle. He had divorced my friend’s mom, and he had at least partial custody of my friend (I don’t remember all the details).

Other teenagers ostracized my friend, but he was a good kid who didn’t deserve that. He had the normal heterosexual interests of a teenage boy as I recall, but I remember we never went to his house to play. I think I only met his father once.

My point? People should be treated well regardless. We’ve all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. That doesn’t mean we should let apostates like Vicky Gene Robinson into our churches (much less lead them!), but we should treat sinners kindly. I don’t think homosexuals should be singled out for special condemnation. God wants them to repent and be saved, too!

It is not possible to conduct a valid study in the present political climate, but my own informal studies prove to my satisfaction that the cause of SSAD is similar to that of PTSD.

That is, one or more overwhelming traumas.

In the case of SSAD, of course, that trauma is sexual in nature. For a boy, this would be a homosexual seduction or rape in the pre-adult years.

“A homosexual is no different than an adulterer, a drunkard, or a liar from a sin perspective.”

I disagree. Clearly, some sins are worse than others. When we establish our legal codes, are we not trying to emulate God’s justice (as best we can)? We legislate a $20 fine for jaywalking, and 20 years in prison for rape (not enough, IMV).

A man lying with a man is the only sin that God calls an abomination. That has to mean something.

“So it’s entirely possible for a repentant homosexual to be a faithful Christian.”

If he’s repentant, why do we even know that he suffers from SSAD?

“However, these urges to return to one’s original sin grow much less as one grows in Christ”

What words can describe His love?

“He doesn’t just suffer from homosexual temptation, he acts on it. Even worse, he claims his homosexual acts aren’t sin!”

That’s just exactly why children must be protected against out-of-control sodomites. Once they get their compulsions under control, perhaps they could be around kids if under supervision; perhaps not. Perhaps it would be a temptation to sin.

“Christians shouldn’t even sit down to eat with someone like Vicky Gene Robinson”

I haven’t been tested like that; probably won’t be.

“I haven’t even gotten into the foolishness of making someone like him a church leader”

That looks to me like the influence of Satan, which is worse than foolishness.

“we should treat sinners kindly. I don’t think homosexuals should be singled out for special condemnation.”

The problem is that sodomites cannot be trusted with children, and for every boy a sodomite rapes or molests, some non-zero number will themselves develop SSAD.

Sorry, but they must not be allowed access to the young. Not even through the media.

“God wants them to repent and be saved, too!”

He wants them to repent and sodomize no more. Salvation is God’s; protecting our young is primarily ours. (Because He says so.)
