Group: Calif. transgender law repeal will qualify (gathers enough signatures)

Opponents of a new California law that gives transgender students certain rights said Sunday that they had collected enough signatures for an initiative that would repeal the law.

A coalition of conservative groups called Privacy for all Students submitted 620,000 signatures to get the initiative on the November 2014 ballot, said Frank Schubert, the political strategist handling the signature gathering effort.

To qualify, at least 505,000 valid signatures must be submitted. To verify the signatures, each of California's 58 counties will first check that the overall count is correct, then conduct a random sampling to make sure they are legitimate. After that, it is likely the state would order a full review.

If, after all of the reviews, the group has the requisite number of valid signatures, the initiative would qualify for the ballot.

California is the first state to pass a law detailing the rights of transgender K-12 students.

One of the provisions gives transgender students the choice of playing on either boys or girls sports teams. It also allows them to choose which restroom that want to use. Supporters of the repeal effort argue the law violates the privacy of non-transgender students.

"It shows the degree of opposition that exists to opening the most vulnerable areas of public schools to the opposite sex," Karen England of Capitol Resources Institute, a coalition member, said in a statement.

Are people going to want to bother with this initiative, knowing it will be nullified by the courts.

The courts will just nullify the repeal. They are near gods who don’t have to listen to mere peons.

One would think that a group of politicians could get no dumber than to allow boys to masquerade as girls and get on female sports teams.

Wrong. They also allow boys to wander into female bathrooms and oogle their classmates.

These politicians are devoid of moral sense.

Yeah, seems courts now control everything ever....

Judicial Tyranny because there is no recourse...

I can’t think of a constitutional right to ignore gender reality that’s being violated. No way that Justice Kennedy would go along with this.

Geeze, when our HS football team is down 42 points, we wouldn’t dream of saying they should quit.

I am sorry, but I was sick to horrified with ‘conservatives’ saying Ted Cruz should quit

Ugh

Wow, an unscrupulous volleyball coach could take state by recruiting boys off the boys team for the girls team....

In the future everyone will be required by law to spend some time as a man and some time as a woman.

It will only be fair.

Disturbing, but fair.

Libertarians aren’t this dumb. At a minimum they’d insist on lockable single occupant restrooms that are for any person.

That would be a rational response, but pretending that a 6’6” muscled male should be on the girl’s basketball or volleyball team is simply ignorant in the classical sense of that word.

Shocked...shocked I say....just shocked that anyone would even think such subterfuge would enter into the mind of coachdom! /sarc

In most cases, they aren’t masquerading. A Christian school in California was told by the wrestling league that it was coed, and they had to accept matches against girls for boys on the wrestling team. The school said, fine, we will just take forfeits for those matches. The wrestling league said, they either have the boys wrestle girls, or leave the league. I think they want to remove the stigma against males hittling females.

How about when your HS football teams wins, then the league informs them the league decided they actually lost the game.

If a federal judge has a certain number rulings tossed by the appellate courts, for other than technical grounds..that judge should be removed..

Exactly! Aren’t these the same folks that nullified the vote of the people of California when they ‘found’ a constitutional amendment unconstitutional, which is most certainly an oxymoronic outcome.

Who really cares? The homosexuals will find a homosexual activist judge to declare it unconstitutional, and Brown, and Harris will not appeal. This is a big waste of time and money in a state that no one cares about any more.
