Warsaw losing plastics plant, jobs (Indiana)

Joe Thallemer has been dreading the decision since July.

But that didn’t stop the official word from being handed down this week.

PolyOne Designed Structures and Solutions will close a Warsaw plastics factory next year, putting 110 people out of work.

As Warsaw’s mayor, Thallemer knew the Kosciusko County operation at 3454 N. Detroit St. could be affected by the Cleveland-based company’s announced consolidation. The plan eliminates 250 jobs and closes six factories.

But the document he received this week from the company extinguished his last hope of escaping the cuts.

“I’d like to think we’d be able to absorb some of those losses, but probably not all of them,” he said Friday from his office in city hall.

Warsaw, known as the Orthopedics Capital of the World, has a population of about 13,600. Surrounding Kosciusko County reported a 6.1 percent jobless rate in August, one of the lowest rates in the state. That compared with 7.5 percent unemployment for all of Indiana in August, the most recent data available.

PolyOne will cut jobs in stages, beginning in early January and ending about Sept. 30, according to a WARN filing received Thursday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development....

A Direct result of the Obamacare medical device tax.
More economic damage from the know-it-alls. Somehow these people losing their jobs makes someone else better off.

"A Direct result of the Obamacare medical device tax"

Even tho the article says they don't have anything to do with plastic medical devices.

Hot tubs, shower stalls, etc. That is a dog eat dog industry because it has a relatively low capital cost. No injection molds or vacuum molds. But they do generate a lot of obnoxious fumes and white dust from buffing/polishing.

Poly One is a developer and supplier of plastic and similar resins, not a bathtub manufacturer. According to its website, the medical industry is one of its major customers.

In paragraph 11 it states that "The manufacturer doesn't supply the orthopedics industry"

Then a few paragraphs below that it states that Spartech, before they sold the plant to the private equity firm, was planning on adding a couple of additional production lines to manufacture "storm doors, bathtubs, tub surrounds, shower stalls, and tanning bed covers"

Who you gonna belive, the company’s own website or the editors of Indiana’s most pro-Obama newspaper?

I know, they are all lying to protect Obama.

I can go to the website just like you. They make many different products, including packing material, colorants and resin for ink and paint, etc, etc.

Evidently, Spartech sold 3 plants to the private equity firm in 2009, then this year Poly One bought Spartech and the 3 plants and are now shutting down this one plant and moving the product lines into another plant.

Can't say for certain, but it must be to protect Obama.
