"Serious" TED CRUZ rocks the TONIGHT SHOW with "Bad Jay" LENO
[PHOTOS, analysis and FReeper "after party"]

From PAULA BOLYARD's wonderful article on pjmedia.com:
Compare and Contrast: Leno Interviewing Obama and Cruz
Does Jay have a double standard?

On Friday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz made his first appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Leno, allegedly in his last season as host of the Tonight Show, has not been known as a particularly partisan entertainer,
so it was surprising to see him go "Candy Crowley" on Ted Cruz...

-- snip --

...Some on Twitter compared Leno to a prosecuting attorney as he interrupted Cruz and accused him
of everything from shutting down the government to wanting violent psychopaths to have guns.

Cruz, for his part, used the appearance to his advantage, clearly understanding both the venue and the audience.
Although Cruz is certainly more than capable of holding his own in a debate with Leno,
he chose mostly to keep his powder dry, defying the media-generated image of him as a hostile aggressor.
He was relaxed and laid back, despite the tough questioning.
It seemed to go over well with the audience, which erupted into cheers after several of Cruz’s points...
THIS THREAD will help to review, analyze and document that historic event. :)
Please feel free to add YOUR positive comments and suggestions.
And who knows, the folks at TEAM CRUZ might actually READ what you post here. ;)

My FAVORITE VIDEO EDIT of this important interview is now posted by JEFFERS DODGE at the HOME OF CONSERVATIVE VIDEOS, PopModal.com:

Ted Cruz with Jay Leno: Cruz stands with the 99% hit hard by Obamacare
while Jay defends the rich and connected.

Why invite someone on to a "comedy show" and turn it into Crossfire? - Yaelle
My thought, exactly!
There already are enough "political" shows out there. :(
--snip --
I never ever saw Leno quite that rough on anyone ever. - Yaelle
I don't watch the "Tonight Show" often enough to speak with authority on this...
...but it did seem very "out of character" for Jay to be constantly INTERRUPTING Senator Cruz...
...and ZINGING him with obviously prepared "gotcha" statements, and clearly leftist talking points.

Never watch the Leno show; maybe some Freeper who did catch it could fill us in on how it went for Cruz?

How did he look?

From a PREVIOUS THREAD:
It’s interesting to go back and watch Leno’s interview with President Obama from this past August, and
compare the questions and tone with Leno’s interview with Cruz last night...
Here's MORE from EXCELLENT ANALYSIS by PAULA BOLYARD, posted on pjmedia.com:
...The most obviously noticeable difference is how often Leno interrupts Cruz compared to Obama.

Leno lets the president finish nearly every answer.
Even when Obama lapses into "um...uh...uh..." Leno patiently waits for Obama to continue.

-- snip --

From the very first question, you can see the difference in tone between the two interviews.

Leno to Obama:

Happy Birthday! How did you celebrate? What did you do?

- – [responding to Obama's basketball comment] You’re pretty competitive, so...

I’ve seen Michelle tease you about your gray hair — you’ve got a bit of silver in your hair — do you tease back?

Leno to Cruz:
I’ve been reading a lot about you lately and they describe you as aggressive, arrogant, and abrasive. Accurate?

- – Any one of those? Can you believe any one of those?

What three adjectives would you use to describe...

Leno tosses the president a few softball questions to relax him and create a friendly atmosphere.
With Cruz, he goes straight to the "everyone pretty much agrees that you’re a jerk. Why do you think that is?" question...

I found the FULL TRANSCRIPT (provided by Senator Cruz's office) from last Friday's interview here:

...and will now post from this transcript EXTENSIVELY, to prove my point. :)

When Jay said that “obamacare is the law of the land, we should just get on with it,” Cruz should have replied that “slavery was the law of the land, should we have moved on with that also?” A missed opportunity to get the crowd behind him.

Cruz was as smooth as a baby seal, Leno was agitated that the audience was responding with loud cheers to Cruz' common sense.

I don't know the political make up of that audience, but regardless of political affiliation, they hate obamacare.

Cruz was a big hit. Watch it on u-tube.

The moment the word “slavery” comes out of his mouth, the race-baiting lib lapdogs will have a field day from here to 2016.

Im sure Sen Cruz knows that.

Ted looked and acted and sounded good. Leno = Delta Bravo

Don't waste your time watching it. Nothing earth shattering.

Don't even know why it's threadworthy

Also from that PREVIOUS THREAD:
Now if you’re saying Leno was harsher towards Cruz than other Republicans who have been on his show... - Impy
I'm saying that I was in the studio audience when Jay interviewed Sarah Palin (once) and Ann Coulter (twice),
and I did not recognize the Jay Leno that I saw reading Obama talking points at Ted Cruz last Friday.
Jay may be a LEFTY, but he's also an ENTERTAINER...
...and he knows that a big chunk of his audience in Middle America is conservative.
After some obligatory jabs at Sarah and Ann, Jay was warm and friendly with BOTH of them,
NOT the partisan hack who kept interrupting Senator Cruz with attempted "gotcha" questions.
So, I'm just trying to figure out what happened THIS TIME.
My preliminary analysis is that the Left FEARS Ted Cruz
more than they feared Sarah Palin after she lost, and
more than they fear Ann Coulter, who isn't running for anything.
It appeared to me that this time around, SOMEONE (probably ValJar, the Night Stalker)
pressured Jay agree to this attempted hit on Senator Cruz.
At least that's MY opinion on what happened. ;)

Leno is a privileged elite entertainer who has some good writers. Millions and millions of dollars in rare and expensive cars, lavish lifestyle and all the best Hollywood has to offer.

His obvious deference and servile attitude to Obama and any of his minions on air is sickening. My guess is any of his Obama jokes are pre-approved by the White House.

You could see that Leno was armed with all the leftist talking points and tried consistently to land a punch. And, he did come close one or two times, but Cruz’ resiliency stifled him. You could also see in Leno that small air of being afraid - once or twice he meekly shrugged his shoulders on ending a talking point question.

I think that what I’m calling Leno-as-afraid is something he and all the other entrenched liberal (and GOP) politicians see as they go whistling past the graveyard in trying to attack Cruz. They see - THEY KNOW - that Cruz carries with him all the right stuff, that Ronald Reagan style, and a very, very seriously committed number of people out here in real America that are behind him more than money, fame, fortune or entitlement can ever be.

Ideology, whether religious or political can’t really be bought. It has been responsible for genocide; and, in another vein, it was responsible for the founding of this country - two wildly different outcomes from basically the same thing. Here is where I see them as ‘afraid’, scared to death in fact. They know they really can’t stop a Cruz crusade under the right conditions even will all the cash in this country, and it scares them.

BINGO!

From www.rushlimbaugh.com:

Cruz Educates Leno on the Real Reagan
He's got Ted Cruz on there, and he said, "Look, I know you're a man of principle.
You have your principles.
Does that prevent compromise, when you're so set on what you do?"

CRUZ: My view on compromise is actually exactly the same thing as what Ronald Reagan's was.
Reagan said, "What do you do if they offer you half a loaf?"
Answer: "You take it, and then you come back for more."

LENO: I don't think Ronald Reagan could get in the Tea Party today.

CRUZ: You know, I don't think that's right at all. Look at what Reagan did.

LENO: Mmm-hmm?

CRUZ: Reagan led a grassroots revolution.
I think where we are today is an awful lot like the late 1970s --

LENO: Okay.

CRUZ: -- where we had economic stagnation.
We had people hurting because the government policies under Jimmy Carter, they weren't working.
Remember, Reagan challenged an combatant Republican president 1976 in a primary --

LENO: Right.

CRUZ: -- and there was I grassroots revolution where he said:
Listen, this isn't working; let's get back to free market principles --

LENO: Mmm-hmm.

CRUZ: -- back to the Constitution...

Now, let's go back to March 13th, 1975, on The Tonight Show, 1975, Johnny Carson had Ronaldus Magnus, and they had this exchange

CARSON: Everybody is confused. How are we gonna get out of this?

REAGAN: I think one of the things is that people keep looking to government for the answer,
and government's the problem. (applause)

A moment ago you asked, you know, about people and feeling not only confused, but low and down on America.
First of all, the American people, if they would just take a little inventory and look around,
you triple our troubles and we're better off than any other people on earth.

And we've asked so much of government, and we've gotten in the habit over the last 40 years of thinking that government has the answers.
There's very little that government can do as efficiently and as economically as the people can do themselves.
And if the government would shut the doors and sneak away for about three weeks, we'd never miss 'em.

RUSH: Ronald Reagan was the Tea Party.

But there's Leno, "Well, Reagan, he couldn't even get in the Tea Party."
You know, a lot of leftists say that.
"You know, the Republicans, they would reject Reagan in a primary election."

Bull shhh. Bull. It's a crock...
