Greenpeace activists face new charges in Arctic Sunrise trial

MOSCOW, November 7 (RAPSI) – Some participants of the Greenpeace raid on a Gazprom drilling platform, dubbed the “Arctic 30”, may face new charges in the ongoing trial, the Investigative Committee’s official spokesman Vladimir Markin said on Thursday.

“Some of the raiders, in addition to the hooliganism charges, will be charged with resisting law enforcement officials," Markin said in an online interview to Gazeta.ru.

The Arctic Sunrise ship was seized by Russian border guards on September 19 in international waters, within Russia's exclusive economic zone, a day after two Greenpeace activists scaled the Prirazlomnaya drilling rig in the Pechora Sea, the southeastern part of the Barents Sea.

The platform, owned by Gazprom Neft Shelf, a subsidiary of Russian energy giant Gazprom, is the first ice-resistant stationary oil platform in the world set to produce offshore Arctic oil.

Resisting arrest charges added, probably because of Sunrise crew's own video of crew's actions when Russian Police boarded Sunrise.

I’m surpised the Russians didn’t just attach a scuttling charge to the hull and detonate during rough weather.

Actually, the longer this goes on....the less likely that any of these characters will ever desire a second run at the Russians. It’s a pretty grim environment there in jail, and they could be there for months, if not years.

Been following this story for awhile. The Russians are wonderfully instructive on how to properly deal with eco-terrorists.

Ping!

I'm sure Obama will agree to sink a few American aircraft carriers in exchange for their release.

It seems the Russians are behaving professionally, and have been doing so for some time now, while still being tough and no one to trifle with.

They are very aware of optics, and have changed their tactics to expose the true intent of these envirofascistist choreographed incidents and debunk their MSM promoted propaganda quickly.

Professional execution sinks the routine leftist "brutality" charges.

It looks like the entire Sunrise crew will enjoy Russian hospitality for quite a while.

It is a strange World indeed if one really thinks about it.
Greenpeace has been engaged in breaking laws, ie, criminal activity, for about 40 years now and the only two Nations to do anything about it are France and Russia.

Overgrown children demanding things be their way...

Considering that using the environmental movement as a political tool of the LEFT was spawned by the KGB, the ironies abound.

People who hijacked airliners to Cuba back in the ‘60’s are just now getting out of Cuban jails. It’s reasonable to expect these losers will rot in prison for a while.

The eco-terrorists deserve life terms in the Russian work camps.

What always amazes me about these Greenpeace activists is that they travel all over the place.

How did they get there? I doubt that they walked.

It does my heart good to see a country stand up and make these eco-terrorists take responsibility for their actions, even if it is Russia.

The left and the KGB (IRS, NSC) have found a new home here.

Pretty much all political agitation causes in the West were conceived and sponsored by Marxist, Communist or Socialist political operatives and funded by Lenin, Stalin and Soviet (or related) bureaucracies until the mid eighties.

Absolutely, and the effects continue to be felt to this day: in academia, activist groups, media, unions, CPUSA and the RAT Party. Bill Ayres and his ilk are still peddling this garbage.
