A South Carolina charter school has canceled its annual Christmas toy drive after a group of self-described humanists complained that the project violated the U.S. Constitution and accused them of bribing children to convert to Christianity.
Renee Mathews, the principal of East Point Academy in West Columbia, S.C., said the annual Operation Christmas Child project was halted because the American Humanist Association threatened to sue the school.
We received a letter saying we had to cease and desist immediately or they would take legal action against us, Mathews told me.
The small charter school had been participating in Operation Christmas Child for the past two years without any controversy.
"This letter serves as notice to policymaking school officials of the East Point Academys unconstitutional conduct and as a demand that the school terminate all promotion, sponsorship, endorsement or affiliation with Operation Christmas Child immediately, read the letter from the American Humanist Association.
Mathews said their small school had no choice.

Anyone who actually believes that this “violates” the U.S. Constitution is doing way too many recreational drugs and is clueless about what is in the Constitution. IMHO.
OCC is a great organization. I encourage everyone to send an extra shoebox of toys to OCC children in response to this humanist action.
Mathews said their small school had no choice.
No choice, eh? If it were me I would be plastering that little notice over all of the local bulletin boards and using the school’s own lighted sign, (if they have one), to let everybody reading it about how these ‘Scrooge’s’ ruined a needy child’s Christmas.
It’s long past time for this stuff to be blasted publicly so that shame can be rained down on the perpetrator’s heads.
I read this yesterday on TheBlaze. Vile.
The War On Christmas is starting early this year.
I’d say hang these f*ckers.
But for once I’ll go with the islamics and suggest stoning.
At least, religious liberty used to be the case in South Carolina.
We never should have allowed the communists and Nazis to take over the judicial branch. But hey! They’re everywhere now. They’ve even been allowed to grab the military from us. The churches sold us out five years ago. JMO.
They should go Caroling outside their home everyday at 4am!
Notify Marines for Toys; the kids will still have toy come Christmas morning.
That is a great idea!
Congress shall make NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion, or PROHIBITING the free exercise thereof.
I guess that's too simple for a highly “evolved” satanist...oops ...humanist to understand. They think they are smarter than God. They might even think they are smarter than their High Priest Bill Maher.
The ACLJ could have these heathens for breakfast
They got a letter
I say, send these evangelical humanists to a solidly islamic country for a couple years. They will be very glad to come back to a Christian country.
After a foretaste of Hell like that, they may even become Christians!
greaat idea... I’m up to the challenge. Will write the school and tell them I will send several boxes IN THEIR HONOR!
*We received a letter saying we had to cease and desist immediately or they would take legal action against us, *
Some day they will stand before a Judge.
They will not be speaking hate to Him then.
“at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord”
~Philippians chapter 2
There are going to a lot of chagrined people at the Last Judgement.
BOR’s not coming to their rescue?
This is one thing he does well.
We’re doing the shoebox thing at our home. There are six people plus myself making them.
Banning the observation of Christmas is what this nation was founded on. At least for the cowd of cranks we remember on thanksgiving. Christmasmwas outlawed by the pilgrims who were shocked when such antics got them harrased in england.
Freedom “of” religion not freedom “from” religion, FRF. I’d say screw ‘em and countersue them for a frivilous lawsuit and wasting my time. I’d get a firebreathing attorney with experience dealing with them who has plenty of political connections then sue them into bankruptcy.
It may not be very Christian of me, but...SHOOT THE B@$T@RD$!
You know they have to be connected to FFRF; probably one of their hydra extnsions.
Well, you don’t want to mess with Humanists, they are such caring people. Perhaps they should be direct to the Youtube video of the Syrian freedom fighter who was beheaded by accident. Everyone knows that $hithappens.
***Mathews said their small school had no choice.***
You most certainly had a choice, Renee. It’s just that you lack guts.
The school folded WAY TOO SOON! Good grief! The left has to prove that coercion exists. It cannot just be assumed.
Parents?................parents..........PARENTS!!!!! rent a hall have a Christmas party with all the students and do what you had plans on doing , fthem!
Tyranny of the .00001%
Since the Constitution, as the Founding States had intended for it to be understood, has not been taught for many generations, I’m not surprised that the community involved with “Operation Christmas Child” doesn’t know how to argue that their program is constitutional.
The American Humanist Association slogal: ‘Good (for nothing) without God’.
That was my first thought.
Yeah she cowed down way to easy, never gonna win a war that way.
We’ve decided we are going to do this as a family.....
Well, it’s entirely possible they won’t survive.
Which would probably be the best possible outcome.
We spend on average twenty dollars a box. We load it with school supplies plus some fun stuff.
We cannot allow private charity. It might undermine the idea that all life depends on the government.
What part of "Congress shall make no law" applies to the constitutionality of the actions of this school?
I’m excited. Our grandson did Operation Christmas Child at his school but we are going to do this as a family.
Need to go tomorrow and gather my items. Any suggestions. Did you use the plastic shoeboxes from .99 Store?
I messaged Jay Sekolow and told him about this story.
communism masquerading as humanism.
We had shoe boxes we’ve saved. Nice one’s where the top just flips back. Bought all the stuff at WalMart. They had solar calculators for one dollar, pack of 20 pencils for a buck and a quarter. All the stuff was quite reasonable so we really loaded up. We filled the boxes as we shopped. Great family time.
If not, the other options are:
1) Thomas More Law Center
2) Alliance Defending Freedom
3) Liberty Counsel
All of these fine groups are the antidote to the ACLU and others of their ilk. We can win this war but must stay vigilant.
Sounds like Constitutional-grade harassment to me. Maybe TMLC will give the inhumanists something to think about.
“self-described humanists” - GFY!
