‘How F***ing Dare You’: Mark Wahlberg Rants Against Hollywood Privilege,

...Gives Emotional Tribute to Soldiers’ Sacrifice

Actor Mark Wahlberg had a few things to say about Hollywood privilege Tuesday night.

In a highly emotional Q&A session for the premiere of “Lone Survivor,” Wahlberg, sitting with Marcus Luttrell, the celebrated former Navy SEAL whom the highly anticipated film is based on, laid out the stark differences between what actors and soldiers go through.

“For actors to sit there and talk about, ‘Oh I went to SEAL training,’ and I slept on the — I don’t give a f*** what you did. You don’t do what these guys did,” Wahlberg said after the “Lone Survivor” screening, according to The Wrap.

“For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as somebody in the military’s. How f***ing dare you. While you sit in a makeup chair for two hours,” he continued.

Wahlberg’s comments came after statements widely attributed to Tom Cruise went viral, in which Cruise appeared to compare shooting movies on location to serving in Afghanistan with regard to being away from his daughter. Wahlberg didn’t name Cruise, and Cruise didn’t actually make the comparison: an attorney made the suggestion, and as TMZ later reported, Cruise said, “Oh come on.”

But Wahlberg made no bones about the fact that the effort behind filmmaking isn’t in the same universe as what soldiers have to endure.

“I don’t give a s*** if you get your a** busted. You get to go home at the end of the day. You get to go to your hotel room. You get to order f***ing chicken. Or your steak. Whatever the f*** it is,” he said.

Wahlberg then mentioned Luttrell by name, honoring his and all soldiers’ service to America, while placing what he himself does in stark contrast.

“I trained for four-and-a-half years, and I was ‘The Fighter’ and … f*** all that. It really means nothing,” Walberg said. “I love Marcus for what he’s done, and I’m a very lucky guy to do what I do, and I’m proud to have been part of it, but it’s just so much bigger than what I do.”

If there was any endorsement of the job he and the other actors for “Lone Survivor,” Wahlberg said it was all about the details and making sure the film was authentic.

Director Peter Berg “would never let any one of us forget about what was important in the course of making the movie and whether it was Marcus or the other SEAL guys,” Wahlberg said.

“If they saw something that didn’t ring true, I don’t care if it was going to be the biggest stunt sequence in the movie, they would cut, call bulls***, and grab all of us by the f***ing back of the neck and say, ‘No, do it this way, and do it right and make it real,’ and if you don’t, it’s a problem. I was really proud to be a part of that.”

Video at link, some obscene language, but gets the point across. Looks like Mr. Wahlberg won't be invited to many Hollyweird parties anymore, no more SWAG for him.

The real piece of information in this story is that apparently Cruise didn’t even say it. So what’s the big f***ing deal.

Walberg's still a total douchebag.

He wants to ban guns. In his youth, he and his friends beat a man they robbed so badly they left him blind. You can see why he wouldn't want the man on the street to be able to protect himself against predators.

I remember seeing the quote and thought it was attributed to Cruise .... so who was it that actually said it, do you know? (I don't...)

In any case, despite Wahlberg's other shortcomings it's actually heartening to see someone standing up for our Country's best and brightest in the Military. They deserve and have earned our gratitude. I think that's what Wahlberg was trying to say anyway...

Obscene language? What Obama said, punctuated with that "period" was obscene.

I recall a morning 45 years ago when we - then Navy Boots - had a session with a Chaplain. He assured us, very near the beginning of his presentation, that "In the Navy, everything fucks."

I'm so far out of it now that I don't know who Mark Wahlberg is, but I believe I'd like to raise my glass with him sometime.

And who did Marky Mark last vote for?

Who does he support in 2016?

Just curious, of course.

No one here should hang a damn thing on Wahlberg. He is a Boston lib. He will be a Boston lib. He will continue to be regardless of reality.

He is not worth of a sh!t.

I have watched some of the training on TV and I will say that it is a wonder any of them make it through.

One thing I did notice in the Ranger training is the trainers did not seem to be orally brutalizing them. They were putting them through such difficult training that it probably made no difference.

I do recall the training which a German/French waffen SS group went through. They were situated in a beautiful castle in a gorgeous forest. Their training was really brutal but their officers did not berate them or scream at them like they did in the WWI novel “All Quiet on the Western Front”. I think one could even call the trainers as being kind to them but they did have to do the work and it was brutal. These men fought as well as any I have heard of.

They were the famed Charlemagne Division.

Gotta say I never thought much of Wahlberg until I saw his ads for the Wounded Warrior Project - not just your average pretty face-empty headed Hollywood personality....

Oh please.

Go watch The Shooter -- which is about as left-wing nutjob a conspiracy movie as you will ever see -- with veiled references to Bush, and not very veiled references to Cheney, then come back and tell me how three minutes of sanctimonious overheated sucking up in order to boost his film cred/audience appeal makes up for that and all of the other leftard causes he supports.

I think that “quote” was the headline. I don’t care for Cruise or his movies, but what he said was with regard to being away from his daughter, and in the middle of a custody debate, and why he doesn’t see her that much. It is the being away that is brutal. Although unlike our warriors, it is probably easier for Cruise to hop on a private jet and get away for a day or two if he really wanted to.

*********

Excerpt from some site:

The actor is suing a magazine for $50 million regarding alleged misinformation regarding his relationship with his 7-year-old daughter, Suri. Information from his deposition in the case won’t go over well with potential movie goers.

Turns out Cruise once spent more than a 100 days without seeing his daughter, but he says his arduous film schedule and training regimen are to blame.

Tom says his location shoots are just like serving a tour in Afghanistan, “That’s what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal. It was brutal.”

Wahlberg was A-OK in my book even before all of this. Hopefully Hollywood doesn’t feel a need to retalliate.

That’s one of my favorite movies actually. Aside from the improvised IV infusion scene, it’s a pretty good action movie. Just watched it two days ago for the umpteenth time in fact.
