The world is truly upside-down when the most stomped-on Western nation in recorded history is taking at least some sort of meaningful stance against the barbarian horde. I suspect that since France doesn’t even have the Thames to bar a jihadi blitzkrieg, the reality is sinking in a bit harder.
Yes...its the reason that worries me.
In eastern France the people like Americans. I had nothing but good times there. I think a lot has to do with the Quebeckers and political history. The Quebeckers come down to the east coast beaches in the summer and they are some strangers...more so than the English speaking Canucks. That and the whole Paris mentality...similar to DC mentality, is enough to make anyone hate you.
I love Paris.
We enjoy the out of the way museums, the food, we love the hotel we frequent, and the Catholic shrines and Churches are wonderful.
I love to shop for clothes in Paris, and we love to go to Monoprix.
the Parisians are neither nice nor not nice, I don’t expert them to act like museum representatives. They have lives, why must I expect them to treat me in any particular way?
I do know Americans expect people to treat them in a particular way if they throw money at them.
They don’t do that in France.
If there’s an obnoxious American turning up their nose at the local cuisine, they might sit for a bery long time and then not get served.
I’ve seen that.
But, I was taught, as an American, not to turn my nose up at food.
The French hat that, and they don’t take being paid (bribery) as a make up gesture.
Sure, there is plenty of anti-Americanism among French intellectuals (or wanna-be intellectuals), but no more so than any other European country. And I certainly don't begrudge them for realizing that occupying Iraq may not be the best strategic move for stability in the Middle East.
Yes, France's surrender to Germany after a mere 3 weeks in WWII was pathetic, but what about the fact that during WWI, France lost more soldiers at Verdun than the US lost during the entire war? Or the fact that a French General almost conquered all of Europe in the early 20th century, or France's instrumental role in the founding of the United States?
More importantly, I would also add that the French are light years ahead of other Europeans when it comes to political opposition to uncontrolled Third World immigration, Islamization, and multiculturalism. They still have a long way to go, but a movement like Le Pen's would have much less traction in the UK and zero traction in Germany.

Certainly in view of the massive invasion we see in Texas of illegal immigrants who have no respect for our borders, language, laws or culture.
Our corporatists, NOT to be confused with capitalists, usher it in; they’ve begun changing language at the checkout, totally ignoring Americans. I’m talking about Macys TJ Maxx, etc, in nice malls.
We could use a whole lot more French type thought, respect for ones own culture, etc, but to criticize them for protecting their own culture is ignorant and weak.
It's not politically correct to criticize such wonderful, quaint, "oppressed" dark-skinned people. So attacking the French or any other group of white Europeans is a suitable, politically acceptable outlet for venting cultural and political frustrations. It also deflects hostility and anger from legitimate threats and problems.

I never understood the need for printing things in Spanish in order to cater to illegals. Most of them are as illiterate in Spanish as they are in English.
“..early 20th Century” should say “...early 19th century...” Hate it when that happens.
So the French got one right.
Let’s not go overboard, though. they still have a lot to answer for.
