Jerk of the Week: San Francisco Supervisor Tries to Politicize Batkid; Complains About Food Stamps
Townhall.com ^ | November 17, 2013 | Christine Rousselle

Posted on 11/17/2013 1:01:50 PM PST by Kaslin

Five-year-old cancer survivor Miles Scott recently delighted America when his wish to become Batman was granted by the Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area Foundation. Social media exploded and the adventures of "#SFBatkid" were followed by millions of people as he saved a damsel in distress and rescued the mascot of the San Francisco Giants. Over 12,000 volunteers helped make Miles' wish come true, and numerous articles were written about how faith in humanity seemed to be restored.

San Francisco city supervisor Eric Mar seems to have missed the heartwarming lesson behind the day, and instead decided to politicize the event. He tweeted and posted the following on Instagram:

Waiting for Miles the BatKid & Wondering how many 1000s of SF kids living off SNAP/FoodStamps could… http://t.co/LNNwpDsIsS — Eric Mar (@ericmar415) November 15, 2013

SNAP (aka food stamps) is a federally funded program. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a private charity. While Mar eventually tried to cover himself later that day on Facebook, the fact still stands that he attempted to politicize a childhood cancer patient's special wish. While childhood hunger certainly is a problem (though the SNAP Challenge Mar encouraged people to attempt has been shown to be not that challenging.), there are 364 other days of the year that don't involve a sick child's dream coming true to discuss it. His comment was in very poor taste.

Mar was also behind the effort to ban toys from Happy Meals in San Francisco. It is unknown if Mar is on the League of Shadows' payroll.

This city supervisor could be working in a soup kitchen as opposed to sitting around on his lazy butt, posting on Twitter.

What a selfish bastard this Eric Mar is!

This is a portent of what is to come. I was once told, by an LATimes reporter on Michael Medved’s Show, that the Government should be able to disperse ‘American charitable giving’. Because, of course, we might not choose the right places for our charitable dollars. I hope we can stop this all NOW!

Make A Wish is funded by donations, SNAP is confiscated from 'rich' taxpayers!

Jerk is right.

He is also an elected member and past Vice Chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party’s Central Committee. Eric has worked to strengthen the local Democratic Party and build bridges with grassroots communities.

Eric is the past director of the Northern California Coalition for Immigrant Rights and a longtime social justice activist with the Chinese Progressive Association and other grassroots organizations. As a public interest attorney, he served on the Human Rights Committee of the State Bar of California and the Civil Rights Committee of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He is an ally of the labor movement and a past shop steward with SEIU Local 790.

It was a REALLY nice thing they did for the kid - but, I wonder if it was the right thing to do [shutting down the city for it] ...

There are prolly thousands of kids in the same situation - what about “Lil Antoine”, “Lil Manuel”, etc. Are they gonna shut down the city for their wishes too ??? The city would come to a screaming halt all year long ...

Hey - its San Francisco - maybe its NOT such a bad idea ...

He’s a disgusting, frozen faced Chinese Communist racist, a Maoist thug.

How garbage like him is afforded the right to public office in the United States, and the label “American”, is beyond me.

And this is the modern San Francisco.

At least the Batkid thing got the normally hard hearted trash of SF to start thinking about kids again.

Pretty sad when he craves attention so much he has to try to steal it from a five year old cancer patient.

.... the Government should be able to disperse ‘American charitable giving’.

That was also a view spewed by John Effing Kerry.

Next watch Medical Research fall by the wayside. I mean, we don't want to develop new ways of fighting disease, do we? We don't the people to live longer, do we? Nancy Pelosi said herself that ‘Americans over 55 use entirely too much of our healthcare resources’. The rest of the world benefits from our breakthroughs in medicine and we have had significant leaps forward in combating all kinds of disease. No more.........medical research is just another kind of charitable giving that the Government will be deciding whether or not gets funded.
