No, Hayden appears to be white. I don’t know if he was a nativist who hated what he perceived to be foreigners, or if he was a drunk who had had a dispute with the victim at some point. Not good, in any case.

How wonderful that New York prevented the cops wife from being armed. Someone could have been hurt.
Since Hayden appears to be white and the victim was probably of Pakistani origin, I’d say the racism goes the other way. Pity the cop didn’t shoot him.
Perhaps he was. The military teaches one to appreciate the benefit of ambush. If you can defeat your enemy completely within thirty seconds, he may not have a chance to counter-attack. The element of surprise is a force multiplier.

Good point. Though it wouldn’t suprize me if the NYPD discouraged off-duty cops from carrying.

In all actuality, I feel bad for the cop and pray for him and his wife.
However, it is not without difficulty:
when every other day there's a story about a surprise colonsocopy, dog shooting, fat hispanic women mistakenly shot while driving a different make/model/color/pickup truck than the homicidal black man, choke slamming a female soldier in a bar etc........and then some chief comes out and claims "the officer was just following protocol."
I'm fairly certain it is NOT the reason in this case, but I do wonder when someone will decide "enough."
Indeed, prayers up for the cop and his wife. Traumatic head injury sucks. Many times it has lasting effects.
The most important thing is that the citizen got home safely. Remember that.

After actually READING the article it is noted that Holder is reported to be from Jamaica. It is also noted that the article states Deen and Holder had an argument of some kind earlier at a nightclub some distance away from this incident. It MIGHT just be that Sgt. Deen wrote a check
with his mouth that he lacked the ability to cover and Mr.
Holder cashed that check. It is VERY unlikely that this
was a random attack but was instead precipitated by some
interaction earlier. Perhaps Mr. Holder has been or has
had relatives who experienced the tender mercy’s of NYPD’s
finest and decided a little PAYBACK was due. It is very unlikely we will hear ALL of this story as the media will
not report anything that does not comport with the government agenda that LEO are sacrosanct.
