His daddy told him “I don’t care what obama said. You’re not staying on my insurance until you’re 26 years old!”

That doesn’t make sense, why would one be stabbed and the other shot?

Having property and soon to take up permanent residence in the adjacent Highland County (which actually is the least populous, rather than its neighbor Bath County) I know a lot of people who are on a first name basis with Deeds. He is by all accounts a charming and friendly fellow, yet an old time collectivist at heart. Like my current Congressscum Stunted Hoyer, I suspect Deeds has moved fairly far left as he “Grew in office.”

The destruction wrought on a family by the lifelong pursuit of power is truly corrosive, which is why sensible people avoid the siren song of politics.

My first thought when hearing the news, even without any familial strife context, was that this was drug-related. A lot of the youngsters in rural America are willing consumers of meth and crack.

While I believe that this thread is not the time or place for politics, it was wrong of me to make it personal.

For that, I apologize.

This is a real shame. Creigh Deeds, while I disagree with some of his politics, is one of the sane ones. Prayers up.

CNN is reporting that the son tried to check into a mental health facility yesterday but was turned away for lack of beds. I’m not sure if that means he tried to do so voluntarily or if the family tried to have him committed.

Very sad.

It was based on the fact most in government and specifically politicians are liars, greedy, very corrupt. Many go into government/politics and come out multimillionaires. They are anything but public servants.

http://www.roanoke.com/news/2389287-12/state-police-creigh-deeds-stabbed-numerous-times-son.html

Deeds was stabbed “numerous times about the head and upper torso,” state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said during a news conference at Virginia State Police headquarters in Albemarle County today.

Gus Deeds, 24, died inside the home from a gunshot, which another law enforcement officer said was an “apparent” self-inflicted wound.

The senator’s son was evaluated under an emergency custody order by mental health professionals on Monday and released, Dennis Cropper, executive director of the Rockbridge County Community Services Board, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The emergency custody order allowed Austin C. “Gus” Deeds to be held as long as four hours to determine whether he should be held longer, up to 48 hours, under a temporary detention order, Cropper said. The son was evaluated at Bath Community Hospital. An emergency custody order can be released by any magistrate.

Cropper said no psychiatric bed could be located across a wide area of western Virginia and the son was released.

Thank you for your post.

This is a tragic story. The son had emotional/mental problems and was taken involuntarily to hospital the eve before. They released him “because there were no mental health beds” and then this happened. Fox reported that the senator tried very hard for a long time to help his son.

My prayers go out to him and his family.
