Skip to comments.MA:‘Constructive conversation’ on guns precluded by ‘progressive’ goals and tactics

Will we ever be able to have a constructive conversation on the [gun] issue? Joanna Weiss asked Sunday in her Gun Debate Hate column in The Boston Globe. She was referring to reports from the week before about a Swamspcott selectman seeking authority for police to enforce Massachusetts state law requiring gun owners to keep firearms in their homes locked up.
Heres a summary of what happened, as far as I can gather, at last weeks meeting of the Swampscott Board of Selectmen, Weiss wrote, decrying the Internet Instant Outrage Machine [that] rained down on Barry Greenfield, the selectman who dared to ask a question about the limits of gun laws, in the context of seeking ways to prevent school violence.
Except Greenfield did more than merely ask a question. And professional columnist Weiss didnt gather facts from very far, particularly in light of actual details being so readily available.
Fortunately, people interested in those facts dont need to settle for just accepting Weisss subjective trivialization of the way things went down. They can review the Board of Selectmen agenda for the meeting of November 6, which clearly defines the discussion item Enforcement of State Law requiring homeowners with registered guns to keep them in a locked safe.
No constructive dialog is possible with people who omit and misrepresent the facts. No recognition is owed those who casually dismiss fundamental rights and ridicule opposing, well-substantiated viewpoints as paranoia, as Weiss did here. No concessions can be given to people whose only interest is to keep gaining and then occupying ground, and once thats secured to press for more.

Negotiation is only possible if there is a way to trust and/or enforce the results. Liberal fascists have shown that they are untrustworthy, and they want to negotiate away our ability to enforce the results of any agreement.
who article should be “whole article”.
It’s quite impossible to have a reasonable, rational discussion in Massachusetts about the gun issue.
The commonwealth is home to hunbreds of thousands of rabid Liberals, who, even if rational in other fields, will lie, distort, hurl insults, become livid, and scream when it comes to the issue of firearms.
They are all fully capable and very willing of shredding the constitution if that’s what it takes to score points on the issue.
The whole farce with “the Attorney General’s List of Safe Firearms” proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that these characters will stop at nothing, however seedy, corrupt, or quasi-legal it may be.
I suspect there are other states where this is also true, but Massachusetts has the national lead, IMO.
Without the Gun Owners’ Action League and the NRA, Massachusetts residents would be left disarmed and utterly defenseless.
That's a loaded question.
Seriously, you can't have a conversation with a liberal about anything. Eventually they just plug their ears and go "la-la-la-la-la."
The “constructive conversation” is the new dog-whistle that means “can we please talk about how many of your rights you can surrender today, pending the repeal of the 2nd amendment?”
So not true.
I have regular, reasoned, rational yet passionate discussions about the 'gun issue' here in Massachusetts with my father-in-law.
It often starts when he tells me about the latest nifty little modification he's made to his Ruger LC-9 and...well...it just flows from there.
I was quite specifically referencing the attempted discussions with the anti-gunners, as I’m sure you understood.
From your description, I wouldn’t include your father-in-law among them.
I’ve got an LC9. I have a box of Hornady `Critical defense’ from Cabelas.
I’ve read since that they may FTF in the Ruger. Do you know what your FIL uses? And any opinion on the Viridian laser?
I like that little gun, `mouse that roars’.
I don't even broach the subject with Left leaning family members and NEVER with anyone I don't know. Can't be too careful and all that.
I've used about every type of ammo from several Mfrs and have never had one fail to feed. In fact, I got the LC9 to replace a Firestar M43 9mm that had serious FTF problems.
Weiss needs to be subject to mandatory random home searches to insure her anti-psychotic meds are locked up .
Will we ever be able to have a constructive conversation on the [gun] issue?
No. Because we have 40 years of experience dealing with backstabbing, lying, constitution denying, gun banners and their tactics. They claim to want to ban on “Saturday night specials” then write laws that would outlaw virtually all handguns including full size 1911s. They claim to want to ban “cop killer bullets” then write the law to include virtually all ammunition. They want to ban “plastic guns” because they can pass through metal detectors, even though they cant. They lie every step of the way, twist words, demonize law abiding citizens, and use hysteria to advance their goals. How can you have a reasonable discussion with such people?
I love Rugers. My first pistol was a Single Six revolver with both cylinders.
Just got a couple 50 round factory magazines from Cabelas for my 10-22, for anyone interested, and they were on sale!
Couldn’t get them for the longest time anywhere.
I have an SR9 too. I like the way the company’s being run these last few years. Nothing wrong with conservative, but they’re doing a lot of things now.
Thanks. I hate to test too many since they ain’t cheap! If you hear anything about that green laser, and see me, let me know OK? Gotta go.
“Nothing wrong with conservative, but theyre doing a lot of things now.”
Yes, sad to see, but old Bill really held them back for a long time.
It often happens that the founder, who was good a building up a company, is not so good at keeping it going.
“Progressive” = Communist!
You ALMOST got me...
