It’s actually a bit frightening to see that the cops can arrest a person 5 minutes after posting something on the Internet. Did they get a search warrant to make Facebook turn over the IP address of the post, and then get a search warrant for the perp’s ISP to track the IP address to a physical address?

Some time ago I was at a car show and oldies concert at Orchard Beach in the Bronx put on by the NYC PBA to benefit the families of the cops and firefighters killed on 9/11. I was chatting with a NYPD detective who restored a couple of the big old 60's era Plymouth Fury patrol cars they used. He told me the "criminal mastermind" types you see on shows like Law & Order, CSI, etc are actually few and far between. Typically a police officer may run into these types once or twice in their careers. Most of the characters they deal with are just plain STUPID! For a good laugh check this out, The Bozo criminal of the day. You can't make this stuff up.

Only 30 minutes passed from the time of the perp's post and the post by the cops saying that they had him in custody.

How did they get the IP address from FB, then get the physical address from the corresponding ISP, and then arrest him in that time period... and still use proper warrants?

I didn't click on the link. My guess would be either a small town and/or a known criminal. There was a thing on the news the other night about underage girls getting approached by pimps in Seattle and getting enticed into it (and then never able to get out).

One of the undercover video shots with female cops and the pimps had the reporter say of the pimp “known on the street as Red Dog...” He was caught and did a plea deal and was out again.

The "thank you to the community" the police posted after the arrest suggests to me that a concerned citizen phoned the police with information as to his whereabouts.

Using FB is asking for identity theft and abuse from almost all quarters.

Having a FB account is like having a phone. You may have one in case you need it but you should use it ONLY when you need it.

Put your RL name and birth date on there, you give 2 out of 4 things needed for ID theft. Add hometown and you gave 3.

Add things about what you think and you can be easily duplicated on the phone.

Only fools facebook or tweet.

Most likely, they got someone to friend request him, or one had already made it onto the friend list and just looked at the address he was stupid enough to fill in.

I really doubt FB would deny any info requested by the police.

If the cops ask for information, and you freely give it, no warrant is needed.

Read the fine print in the Users Agreement. They don’t and won’t require a warrant if you are violating the UA to engage in criminal activity.
