PEANUT ISLAND, Fla. — The dingy, cavernous steel fallout shelter hastily built on a man-made island off Florida's east coast is a stark reminder of the harsh realities President John F. Kennedy faced from the first days of his presidency at the height of the Cold War.
As the Kennedy family vacationed minutes away at the Palm Beach compound known as the Winter White House, the shelter's main chamber sat ready at a moment's notice with 15 sets of bunk beds, a desk for the president and a conference table.
The heavily protected hideaway, fully stocked with military K rations, barrels of water and radiation detection kits, could serve as home for 30 of Kennedy's family and key staff for a month in the event of a nuclear attack.

It would sustain 30 family and staff for a month. Pretty crude by today’s standards, but nice looking.

Whenever the democrat media falls on hard times they harken back to the good ol' days.
I noticed there are several Watergate specials running on the boob tube as well.
They didn't mention the 384 cases of Canadian Club.
Florida does not seem the best location for a presidential bunker. Florida has a heavy military presence and would be a major target in a nuclear war. In the Kennedy-era book “Alas, Babylon,” about an imaginary nuclear war, Florida is hit hard by the Russians, even though the story involves a group of survivors in a small Florida town.
No point in building the bunker in Montana when the president vacations in Florida. They needed something close by.

At the end of the article it says that:
"It receives no financial contributions from the federal government or the Kennedy family, even though Ethel Kennedy, the widow of slain former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, visits the bunker almost every year with her grandchildren."
The facility would have sustained the Kennedy family yet the family does not want to sustain it. The Kennedy clan is still incredibly wealthy; an annual maintenance donation would be a nice gesture from them. But being Democrats, it appears they want someone else to pay for it.
Jeepers. Think of it. 30 days trapped underground with the Kennedys and their “er, ah, staaahf” proceeding with “great vigah’ “ into the future. And, not a drop of whisky in the bunker. The living will envy the dead, indeed.
JFK had them stashed in an adjoining bunker, with the swimming pool. LOL.
50 years and we still don’t really know what happened. Probably never will. I remember it as a 13yr old kid.
Earplugs for everyone; that Kennedy vocabulary would drive me nutz.
I’m sure they were well-stocked with booze.

What do you mean we don’t know? I think the most thorough summary is the work NOVA did on this that makes it clearly the result of one man, Oswald, as the assasin.
Democrats and liberals want you to believe that some right wing nut or CIA killed a democratic president. Not true. It was Oswald. CIA and FBI knew his whereabouts and were tracking him.
