Report: Boehner told Radel not to resign

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and other Republicans told Rep. Trey Radel (R-Fla.) they didn’t want him to resign and would support him, according to Radel’s father.

“He had a meeting with John Boehner and some of the Republicans,” Skip Radel told Ohio’s The Cincinnati Enquirer. “They told him they didn’t want him to resign, and they wanted to back him.”

According to the report, Boehner’s spokesman, Michael Steel, declined to comment on the father’s remarks. Steel stood by the statement his office issued Wednesday: “Members of Congress should be held to the highest standards, and the alleged crime will be handled by the courts. Beyond that, this is between Rep. Radel, his family and his constituents.”

Radel, 37, announced during a late-night news conference Wednesday from his district in Cape Coral, Fla., that he is taking a leave of absence from Congress to seek intensive inpatient treatment. Earlier that day, he pleaded guilty in court in Washington to a misdemeanor cocaine possession charge.

This is the last straw. Boehner needs to go if he's allowing this kind of garbage to stay in office.

Boehner needs to keep guys like Radel around, because he is a drunk and a wuss, but by comparison, he comes out looking good.

He told him not to resign because he’s now soiled and can use him as a tool or reliable vote, like Larry Craig and John Ensign were when needed.

This is the last straw.

With Boehner, this is more like the 20th last straw.

in a way I am glad he did not resign because it breaks the media shame game of implied accusations causing resignations.

Sorry, I get your point, but you know what, the dems never throw their people out when stuff like this happens.

We need to learn to play in the gutter and the sooner and more thoroughly we learn that the better.

Wasn’t Romney and McCain the gutter? Isn’t this why they lose our base, because they keep trying to play in the gutter with the Dems?

No, neither, not in the sense I mean anyway.

John McCain may have some familiarity with the gutter due to his Naval experiences, but he actually said: there’s nothing to fear from an Obama presidency.

And Mitt Romney wouldn’t recognize the gutter if he landed in it head first.

Maybe we need a real Scots Irish candidate for president, some one who just LOVES fighting.

Why should he resign? The Dems never apologize or resign.
